Animals Hunted: Mt. Lion
I hunted with Clark Fork Outfitters in Oct. 2006. I was primarily hunting elk and deer, however my deer tag was good for bear and or a mt. lion. On the 4th day, a nice lion crossd the road not too far away and I optioned my deer tag and took it. What a thrill. My guide later told me the possibility of shooting a mt. lion without using dogs, just seeing it out hunting was rare. I plan on returning next year! Great outfitter, guide, meals, accommodations and experience!!

I hunted with Mark's outfit the 3rd week of Oct and the rut was basically over. The herd bulls were holding their cows tightly in heavy timber and were very elusive. This was a challenging task for the guides, but working in concert with other guides, my guide, Sean, successfully worked a very nice 5x6 to within 80 yards of me. That bull went to the taxidermist the next day. This was the most enjoyable guided hunt I've ever done. Jan and Mark are gracious hosts. The food, service and accomodations couldn't have been better. Note: It's beautiful country but tough terrain. Get in shape.

Korell Outfitters is an outstanding outfitter. The knowledge of the country and the movement of the elk was unbelievable. This outfitter and guide did an outstanding job getting me into elk. Accomendations and meals are excellent. Went last year and my hunting partner and I each missed bulls. No persons fault other than mine. The outfitter and guides got us into bulls every day, but one. This year we were into 30 plus bulls. Bulls were bugling, which created extra excitement. Chris and Cody Korell are truly professionals at what they do. You arrive as clients and leave as valued friends. If you are looking for a an excellent consultant, look to Wade Derby at Crosshair Consulting. Wade will not book a hunt unless he or one of his associates has personally gone on that hunt to check things out. If it does not make the cut it does not get listed as a bookable hunt.

I think realistically your average bull shot in camp is going to be a 250-290 inch bull. There were 7 of us and no one got an elk one was wounded though. The terrain there is HELL you’re climbing your BUT off everyday and it makes it very hard to hunt. The spots you hunt in are the same spots the guys the week before you hunted in and the guys before them and so on.

On this hunt we had 2 great guides and went into a very remote area with lots of elk. 3 0f 4 hunter shot bulls. Tim's head guide, Wade, is amazing. All of Tim's experienced guides work very hard to ensure a great hunt. It would be nice to have a cook/wrangler in camp but then the price would be higher. I hunted with Tim last year and we got 1 bull with 4 hunters. 2 other hunters got shots but didn't connect.

THREE HUNTERS HUNTED FOR A WEEK FOR TROPHY WHITETAIL DEER. LESS THAN 9 DEER WERE SPOTTED BETWEEN 3 HUNTERS. ONLY 2 BUCKS NONE CLOSE TO TROPHIES. FOOD AND LODGING WERE GOOD TO EXCELLENT. THE GUIDES DEPEND ON DEEP SNOW TO CONCENTRATE THE ANIMALS IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS. THE GUIDES DID LITTLE MORE THEN DRIVE US TO DROP OFF POINTS. THIS AREA IS HOME TO SOME REAL BRUISERS BUT YOU WILL NEED A GOOD GUIDE TO FIND THEM.

This was my first Elk hunt so I had nothing to gauge the hunt by in comparison to other Outfitters, except my own awesome experience during the hunt, & the assurance of other hunters in camp, who had been on guided hunts before, that this was a top notch outfit. Unfortunately, this was a muzzleloader hunt in late November, & the weather didn't cooperate, & dump enough snow to drive the big bulls down from their hidey holes. I felt that everyone on the staff worked as hard as possible to find animals. I had a cow w/calf close enough to spit on,& it was awesome. Elk in camp during the night. We moved extensively trying to locate Bulls, & I feel that the utmost effort was put forth by all the staff in camp to make this a great hunt. I have already booked a rifle hunt for Oct.,2008, with the gentlemen who shared camp w/me. One of them shot his first Elk, a 4x3 Raghorn, but nonetheless, an awesome critter, & a trophy to him.

our hunt was set up 8 month in advance. We are avid bow hunters so we signed up for a bow hunt for may 1st to may 5th.when we arrivedat the ranch our guide told us he had no baitsset up for bow hunters and that we should hunt with rifles. He also said that 2 of the standscould not be moved and the other might be ok for a bow stand if we were comfortable shooting 30 to 40 yards.just by chance I had thrown in a rifle before I left home but our guide didnt know that until I told him.So why he wanted us to consider rifle hunting was mute at this point.but after a coin toss me and my partner decided that we would switch off rifle and bow.Well I ended up the first evening at the bow stand which was 30ft up a 12" dia tree 30 to 35 yards from the bait hole. The wind was really whippingthat nite so the stand was moving back and forth about 3 to 4 feet.I ask my guide to move the stand down and alittle clser to the bait and he flipped out saying the stands are where they are because thats where thy have to be and if he moved them the bears would spook and not come in to the bait hole.I told him I didn't feel comfortable with that stand location so he said he would move it the next morning but if he did it was to be my stand for the whole week which ment my partner would be stuck in a rifle stand the whole week.My partner got put in a rifle stand that our guide said a sow and two cubs were hitting every nite which they did 20 minutes after getting in the stand and cleaned all the bait out.I dont know whether he intended him to shoot the sow or a cub but there was no other sign around the bait I dont know. The next morning tim craig called our guide to see what was going on.I dont know what was said there but our guide said tim must have had a brain fart because he knew there was no bow stand set up on the ranch. He continued to push us to rifle hunt.a few minutes later tim craig called back and wanted to talk to me.HE WENT INTO A TIZZY ASK ME IF WE WERE A BUNCH OF COMPLAINERS OR WHAT?I said we just wernt getting what we paid for and he replied that it sound to him like we had bad attitudes and said we werent much of a bow hunter if we couldnt shoot 30 to 35 yards from a moving tree.So after that conversation we decided we werent going to get a word in edgewise so we exited the ranch and drove 5 hours home to Washington. After the fact I found out tim craig had a buckmaster video on the ranch we were supposed to hunt so we got moved to public land on the other side of the river. About the time the video people left he called and wanted us to come back to finish our hunt on the ranch we were supposed to hunt in the first place. But my partner and I had used up our week vacation that was planned for eight months and just cant take another week at the drop of a hat.So the moral of this story is you should find out where you are hunting and make sure there are no t.v. people scheduled for the same time. When he called at the end of the week we should have been hunting he promised good close bow stands with cameras and videos of bear hitting the baits. WOW I THOUGHT THATS WHAT I PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE. GO FIGURE.

The outfitter was very knowledgeable of the area and mountain lion traits. He was extremly hard working. His hunting dogs were superb in tracking and eventually treeing the lion for the kill. The outfitter and his wife were very hospitable from the time they picked me up at the airport until they drove me back to the airport. The food was plentiful and delicious. I was so impressed with Corey's skills as an outfitter and guide that I am scheduling a mule deer hunt and a bobcat hunt with him in October and December, respectively.

My freind and I went on a 6 day 1x1 cougar hunt. My freind did not get to see one cat. He never cut a track. I cut one track which was a female which the guide pressured me to shoot. The outfitters younger brother was a hot headed young kid who tried to provoke a fight like the the cowboys from the old west did. He ruined our hunt due to the fact we were in a remote camp with some hot head kid packing a S&W revolver.Book elsewhere.

I have been on a number of guided hunts, both Elk and Mule deer. I found Boulder Creek Outfitters to be right up there with the more expensive hunts you can find. There was plenty of game to choose from and the guides never proded you to take shots at the first animals to show just to fill your tag. I would recommend this outfit to anyone that want's a good time for a resonable price. I had some much fun this last year I am going again.

My brother and I were very excited to book a hunt in Idaho since we had heard of the good bucks up there. We were promised a 2 on 1 guide service. From what I gather, this seems to be a common promise in Tim's contracts which he rarely fulfills. I was lucky enough to be paired with other hunters, and with Tim's son and we saw plenty of game. The promblem is that they only hunt the easy deer which are right by the beaten path. I guess the hunt could be considered sufficient to a hunter who had never hunted mule deer and had never seen a normal amount of deer during the hunt. The guides are very content in driving the same circuit of roads, never varying, and trying to talk inexperienced hunters into shooting very average deer. A 24" 4X4 buck is not what I consider a trophy buck. I was able to glass up some bucks further down ridges or on top of hills which I could not convince Tim to even make an attempt at. I got the impression that they couldn't care less if I was satisfied with my experience. They have a good ranch, but are too lazy or not prepared to hunt it properly. Maybe if they would have had the sufficient amount of guides for all the hunters , we might have been able to go after some of the better deer, or actually hunt. My brother was forced to hunt with Tim's brother who had a cow elk tag he was trying to fill. For three days they went into areas looking for a cow elk with my brother and another hunter, most of the time seeing no bucks the entire day. This was while the bucks were all over the open ridges chasing the does in full rut. Needles to say if was frustrating.Tim needs to wake up from his Buckmaster fantasy. This so called Jackie Bushman experience is a hoax. He probably receives the royalty treatment that Tim's booking agent and his wife received on the hunt we were on. The sad thing was that even with Tim's personal help Butch, the booking agent, still only killed an average buck. I would just caution any inexperienced mule deer hunters especially to be wary of going there. They will shown the same two dozen easy deer which others have probably passed on. If you do book a hunt try get comments from the other ten hunters in camp during the November 24-29 '05 hunt. I know you won't get many positive responses.

This hunt utilized hounds to find bears. Therefore, I only saw the bear that the dogs treed. Although the outfitter found my bear on the second day of the hunt, it appears to me that the dogs were striking a number of tracks. This would indicate a decent population of bears.

Mark runs a great outfit. The accomodations allowed each of us a single room for our group of three with a shared bathroom. The food was great (Jan is a fantastic cook!)and the dining area was second to none. The hunt itself was very tiring as lots of hiking up/down considerable steep mountains. You need to be in shape! He had sitting stands availible if we wanted but we pushed ourselves to hunt hard. The day started at 3:30,breakfast at 4:00 am (West Coast) and would typically go till 7:00 pm. We would eat supper, talk about the day and then crash. I went the week of September the 10th- 17th. The elk were around rut and made each day exciting. Our guides wanted us to be successful even more than we and went many extra miles. Of our three, I killed a 5 X 5 during the archery hunt. I also missed a 5 X 6 that was saved by a two inch lodge pole limb that my sights were covering. I was also within several more bulls at less than 100 yds. My other two buddy's were within bow range but for various reasons didn't get a shot. This was my most exciting hunt in my 30 years of hunting.

All hunters know hunting is hunting and the rest are just winers and as a Professional Hunter and guide I would recommend Joe to anyone wanting to hunt Bear, Elk, Deer, Moose, Mt. Goat, or Mt. Lion. I missed a 7 1/2 FT. Chocolate the first night of the hunt and killed a 5 1/2 FT. Black Bear on the third night. I wasn't going home without you know it was my first Bear. Also saw Deer and Elk on every hunt, had 14 Bull Elk right behind me when I missed the Chocolate. The Cabins we stayed in were heated and much more than I ever expected. The food was unbeliveable I don't never eat like that!!! Thanx Joe and the guys and gals. Chris Vaughn

We hunted with Dave Melton and his staff the fall of 2004. We were in the Craig Mountains, 3 hour ride by pickup then another 9 hours in by horse. The scenery was beautiful, food was absolutely awesome and the guides, Travis and Phil, were second to none. The wolves have been a problem for those guys and are thinning the elk out. The first day, our group of 4 split into two groups. My brother shot a nice 5x5 and my cousins in the other group seen a nice, 330 bull but never got a shot. I shot a 6x6 on the 4th day of the hunt. We seen bear and fresh lion tracks. Actually had a bear come into camp and get into our mess tent and then a few nights later, into the beer. It was a wonderful experience in Idaho.

Clint is a hard-working guide with an excellent eye. He spotted more than half a dozen bears on a 6 day spot & stalk spring bear hunt. In addition, we saw moose, elk, white-tails, mule deer, turkeys, and even a bald eagle.Clint got me to within 80 yards of a nice cinnamon-colored bear, but I made a clean miss. The weather was good with plenty of daylight and a clear field of vision, so it must have been a bad case of buck fever. I think most hunters could easily make this shot and I also believe you'll see a number of various colored bears on this hunt.

5 of us booked a wilderness hunt 2 on 1 with camp cook and wrangler (stated in his contract). We drove to Idaho from Utah and wanted to make sure we could find them. We found out that only 3 of us could go into the wilderness and 2 of us had to stay down on the river (the 5 of us are hunting buddies and this really sucked). So we drew straw and myself my dad and our fried Jim went into the wilderness. We headed out and I noticed that there was only one guy going in. I just thought that the others were already in camp. Well they were not. To make a long story short I did not get what I paid for. No guide a cook half the time and a wrangler half the time. Our guide did the best he could with what he had to work with. I could not stand to let him do all the work so I did all I could to help. I have guided and have my own string of horses and pack animals. I think that Tim thought that we were out for the wilderness experience.

This hunt required six full hunting days to produce a senario that allowed me to harvest a cat with a good potential for the P&Y record book. Darl has several other big game hunting options as well as various pack trips. With the dedication I saw on my lion hunt I am sure any one would be making a good choice booking with this outfitter.

I've been on 3 guided mountain lion hunts, but Buckshot was the only outfitter to produce results. Here's an anecdote that gives some insight to their operation:I was hunting with 2 guides, Glen & Cory, who treed a lion on a snowy mountainside just before dark on the 2nd day out. After shooting the lion, rounding up the dogs, and gathering our geer, we were operating in total darkness. The guides decided it wouldn't be smart to head down the hill since I was getting leg cramps (didn't drink enough water!), we had only one flashlight, and no water. They started a campfire and prepared to siwash for the night. However, Clint Gray, who was in contact with us by CB radio, figured we'd be better off back at the house!Clint headed up the mountain with extra flashlights & water, trying to locate us in the dark. He found us using GPS receivers that the guides carry. We made it off the mountain by 9pm. This is just one example of how Buckshot went the extra mile for its client.

My trip took place in the Swan Valley of Montana. I was the first guest at Glen and Sally’s home (Clint’s Parents) due to Clint expanding into Montana. Glen and Sally made me feel like family from morning to night the entire week. Clint was raised in the “Swan” hunting cats, deer, elk, bears etc. with his father and ran his first cat with his dad at 9 years old. Glen has been hunting the Swan Valley for over 30 years and has always been particularly fond of cat hunting. With this type of hunting influence it is not hard to understand where Clint gets his desire from. Clint is a very hard working, knowledgeable and caring outfitter who truly does care about his clients success and comfort, his father and a personal friend of his Cory helped out until we got our lion on the third day. I plan on seeing Clint in a couple years in Idaho to run some Bobcats.

(4) of us hunted with Mark this past deer season. The Idaho Panhandle is different country than New York. We hunted during the rut and the pre season scouting paid off. He runs a first class operation. Hunted same hill(approx 40 acres, yes acres) the whole hunt. Within sight of main highway, park full of hikers etc...you get the picture. No elk or mule deer. excuse was wolves ran everything off. Thought guide should find where elk where anyway?Guide got lost, fought with horses daily instead of hunting, did not get out of bed one day, slept every day in field anywayWorst of all Mr Craig "information" not exactly what he presents.Think a whole lot before going on his wilderness hunt. PLease please..........

My brother and I had not hunted together since our father passed away some years ago. We planned this trip in his memory. We selected Clark Fork Outfitters (Mark Berry) referred to us by a friend of ours. We talked to Mark about a bear hunt for 2003. He gave us the true scoop as to what to expect. Mark picked us up at the airport, and showed us pictures his game cameras had taken of different color phased bear on baits. He and his guides knew exactly what bear were hitting which baits! We saw bear and my brother and I both took bear within 3-4 days of hunting. This hunting trip was already special to begin with, but Mark, his wife Jan and guides made the trip even more special. They are down to earth folks that worked hard for us! We had a great time and will definately return!

Being from Dallas, Tx I had heard there were big whitetails in Idaho, so I booked a trip with Clark Fork Outfitters having met Mark Berry at a hunting show. He delivered in every catagory! I took a 147 3/8 whitetail on the second day of my hunt. My hunting partner took a nice 140's class as well! I can't say enough abt. Mark's operation, guides and the overall experience. 1st Class through and through! From the time he picked us up at the airport until he took us back, he took care of everything. His facility was nicer than any I have stayed at and believe me, I've stayed in some quality places! His guides were personable and willing to go the xtra mile for us. The one thing I like the most was the fact that when we were ever seperated from our guide, we always had radio contact with them in case we needed them. They were always a short distance away. The photo album Mark gave us at departure was nice as well. Gave us some bragging rights when we got home. All in all, a great trip that we look forward to taking again!

I went on a group hunt with 2 other hunting partners. We had heard there were big whitetails in Northern Idaho. We flew into Spokane, Wa. and were met by Mark Berry the outfitter. He then drove us to his resort and we sighted in our rifles at his range (very nice). He had already gotten our hunting license and tag for us. We later met our guides, who were very knowledgeable of the area and knew where the game was. They covered most aspects of the week ahead before the hunt. I tagged out early in the hunt with a nice buck scoring in the 140 class. One of my other hunting buddies also shot a huge whitetail pushing 150! If I could recap our experience in a few words, it would be, these guys are professionals, prepared and alot of fun! I highly recommend Mark and his staff!

My husband and I both had elk tags. I also had a mule deer tag and he also had a bear tag. We saw NO game except some mountain goats my husband spotted. We aren't sure why the outfitter put us in this spot when it was obvious there is no game in the area. It did rain most mornings but another hunter in a different camp from ours shot a very nice bull elk. We didn't even see much sign of game in the area. We were so excited about this trip and we saw NOTHING. This turned out to be a very expensive camping trip!

I'm a retired 68 year old doctor and haved hunted in Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico and have yet to pull the trigger. Even though the terrain in the Panhandle of Idaho was somewhat steep, my guide took me at a pace I could enjoy. On the 4th day of my hunt I took a dandy 6x6 bull, my first, which scored in the 300's. I can't say enough about Mark and Clark Fork Outfitters. From the accomodations, meals, guide, meat processing and taxidermy, they followed through on everything. I even got a photo album of my hunt prior to leaving! Nice touch! Thanks to them, I've got a trophy of a lifetime!

From the time we were picked up at the Spokane, WA airport (in a Hummer no less), to the accomodations (our own cottage), to the hunt itself. 1st Class, these folks go out of their way to do the job right! During my November 2001 hunt I saw a total of eleven bucks on a 5-day hunt, with the best buck possibly scoring 110 BC. The outfitter had stated to me that I should expect to see 25 to 35 bucks per day, with several bucks scoring 140-150 BC.I had even purchased a second tag in anticipation of taking two trophy bucks. On the second day of my hunt the outfitter advised me "YOU WILL BE SITTING IN THE BEST DEER STAND IN THESE UNITED STATES!". On the last day of the hunt I took a 12inch, 6-point. I have made several attempts to contact RALPH HATTER concerning the $1,500.00 he charged me for harvesting a second deer (which I did not take) with negative results.

Fly-in/Horseback Bugling Elk Hunt to the wilderness of Sellway-Bitterroot in Idaho..A dream come true hunt...except Tim Craig ripped us off. 8 beautiful fall days in camp and out of 4 hunters with 4 guides, 1 saw only 1 small bull.Plenty of excuses....Only bugle heard came from lone bull after calling him for an hour and the elk was leaving the area. Group at our camp before us saw no elk, and group at other camp at same time as us so no elk. Note: Boulder Creek sponsored Two hunts on BuckMaster's TV Show. I and a hunting partner booked bear hunts(archery) over bait.I was told that we were guaranteed to be put on hot baits.A total of (7) hunters in camp for a six day hunt(3 were repeat big $$$ customers).Booked a 2x1 guided hunt, most times we were taken to the stands 4 or 5 at a time in one truck. The guide did walk you in to your stand(while everyone else waited in the truck). 3:00 pm left camp for stands it was dark at 9:30 pm wasn't picked up until 11:00 or 11:30 pm and the funny thing was the big$$$ hunters were allways picked up first even if it was out of the way to their stand. In three evenings of hunting with 7 hunter on stand 0 bears were sighted, some baits were never hit by a bear to their knowledge. So my partner and I CUT OUR LOSSES AND LEFT EARLY.Four hounds kept everyone up but were never used to find any animals,I even asked if I could pay extra to use them but was told I would have to ok it through joe the owner but he left camp after the first morning and never saw him agian.Told our supposid guige that we were unhappy and were thinking about leaving but he didn't seem to care.out of the whole six day hunt only one bear was taken.

Animals Hunted: Lion, Bobcat
Clint is a young houndsman who truly loves the land, it's inhabitants, his hounds, and the chase, having killed only one lion himself, his pride and enjoyment comes in bringing other hunters to appreciate what a magnificent trophy the lion is. His father, if you are fortunate enough to have him join your hunt, is a lifelong study of the habits of the lion and the raising and training of hounds. They are truly a guiding family to be proud to know, the accomodations are very warm and comfortable, with privacy, and Clint's family is as nice as they come. Cherry is also an excellent cook. The reason there is '1 of each' listed above is, Clint's proper reading of tracks in the snow puts you on the right animal the first time, and he and the dogs do the rest.

Booked elk hunt for 1997. All money was paid in advance($2700). Two days prior to leaving I broke collar bone and 2 ribs. Needless to say didnt make trip. They made no effort to rebook-return any money or offer credit towards another hunt. Per Idaho laws was to receive license money back but he had "lost" my license. Did force him into returning the license money via personal check.

Animals Hunted: Elk
This was an Elk hunt during opening week in the Idaho panhandle (Oct 10-17 2001).This hunt sucked. The outfitter, Chad Gallagher, is a scam artist. In fact, we were delayed on the first day because he was talking to his attorney to keep himself out of jail. He also told us he has had problems with the game warden, and if we saw him to let him do the talking. There were 4 hunters in camp but only 1 guide but paid for a 2on1 hunt, so Chad was a 'acting guide'. In a 7 day hunt, all 4 hunters combined saw 4 cows and calfs. The one guide in camp had guided for 14 years, but he arrived in camp the same day we did, therefore no scouting was done beforehand. This was primarily an elk hunt however, Chad promised an excellent chance at a deer, bear or cougar. We saw a combined 4 does and fawns and never saw any bear or cougar sign. Chad only hunts on public land (national Forest). We saw other hunters everyday! Chad packed us in several miles by horse to 'get away from the public'. However, this area allows motorcycles, and we saw motorcycle hunters everyday. While we were out hunting, motorcycles would drive right through our camp. Many times the motorcyles would beat the horses to the area where the guide wanted to hunt.Days before we were to leave Chad called and wanted all the money up front. He said the elk rut had not started and guaranteed we would hear bugles daily. He also told us based on archery season, we would see elk everyday. Needless to say we never heard a bugle and the elk were not rutting. The oufitter's Mommy bought this guide service for Chad Gallagher from another outfit the year before and along with it bought alot of new equipment. Therefore the camp is in good shape. However the food was sucked. This oufitter is new and young. He believes in getting drunk every night and lying about everything. Maybe when he grows up he will learn to treat his cutomers with respect. And that we are paying for a professionally guided hunting trip rather than a $3750 camping trip.I have been on many hunting trips and this was by far the worst ever! Beware he might change the name of this outfit in order to scam the next years hunters. The outfitter licesnce belongs to Mommy - Jeanie Richardson (and Mike Richardson).

I took my second bear hunt in the Selway area with Lochsa River Outfitters during May of 2001. I accompanied the hunter who purchased a donated hunt at the MDF banquet in September. We both were able to harvest good bear. Mine squared 6'10" and had nearly a 20 inch skull, dark black hide, and probably weighed close to 375 pounds.I book hunters to the outfitters through my office at Steve's Outdoor Adventures. They have over 65 years and three family generations of experienece guiding not only bear hunters but back country elk and deer hunts.

When deciding which outfitters to book with we try to hunt with as many of our outfitters as possible. This hunt was the 17th of october in 2000. I hunted from their general zone camp. They had a great private ranch with state lands behind their property that limited public access. There were good numbers of deer and it is only my fault I did not get a 30 inch plus buck, twice. I have arranged for a camp of my clients to come back during the November muzzleloader season in 2001 and will give you an update on that hunt later.Steve's Outdoor Adventureswww.steveshunts.com

Animals Hunted: Mule Deer/Bear
Hunted Mule Deer in 1999 - private land hunt. Boulder Creek advertises 95% success on 24" to 30" deer. We (four hunters) didn't see any over bucks over 20". Paid in advance for a Bear Tag, but Tim had forgotten to get it. He did send guides to town to get it, but then they weren't guiding us for half a day. Cook was not in camp, so one of the guides was trying to do double duty. We didn't eat until 9:00 PM most nights. Several of the guides were good, but they were assigned to the Elk hunters, who were paying more. Saw a lot of Elk, and one of the hunters in camp got a monster 7x8. Might have been satisfied if hunting Elk. One guide we had worked hard, but was inexperienced. Another mainly rode us around on a 4 wheeler, talking instead of hunting. He admitted he did't know much about trophy hunting - said he usually liked to take an easy one. Wrote to the outfitter after the hunt, politely criticising several aspects of the hunt. Never received the courtesy of a reply, or even any followup literature. Boulder Creek receives a lot of publicity hosting Bill Jordan and Jackie Bushman. Apparently doesn't need repeat business from anyone that complains. Also quite expensive for a deer hunt.
Outfitter Review: Shepp Ranch - Idaho
Outfitter / Owner: Shepp Ranch
Hunter: Steve Trover
Animals Hunted: Elk & Deer
I used other outfitters for Elk and Deer in the Salmon River country of Idaho prior to discovering Shepp Ranch. However, Shepp Ranch is without question the finest hunting outfitter I have ever experienced, period. I plan on returning to Shepp Ranch every possible year in the future to hunt Elk and Deer and to enjoy the fine people affilliated with Shepp Ranch. As long as I can maneuver the steep, rugged and beautiful mountains of Idaho's Salmon River country, I will keep comming back. Our guide, our cook and the other Shepp Ranch personnel were simply outstanding. I have never seen an outfitter so capable, ethical and committed to providing the finest hunting experience possible. We were fortunate to see lots of game during our hunt. We took both Deer and Elk during the hunt because our guide was so experienced and completely familiar with the area. I believe our guide has been guiding out of Shepp Ranch for close to twenty years. We hunted extremely hard each day, leaving camp each morning well before light and arrived back at camp each evening after dark. Shepp Ranch constantly demonstrated its commitment to provide us with an outstanding experience every day of our hunt. Our guide made sure that safety and hunting ethics were a top priority. We enjoyed a safe, ethical and absolutely first rate hunting experience with the fine people from Shepp Ranch. Without question, it is the best hunt I have ever experienced. One word of caution. The country we hunt out of Shepp Ranch is extremely rugged and steep. You must be in good physical condition for this hunt. If you are not physically fit to handle strenuous hiking in extremely steep mountain country, you might look for some other area to hunt. While we rode horses from camp several hours each day to the general area where game was located, the hunt is still physically demanding. We hiked several miles up and down extremely steep mountains each day. None of this country is even close to flat. It is the most physically demanding country I have hunted. Be prepared for some very hard work, but its worth it. During the week we hunted, we saw several hundred Elk, including at least 50 bulls. Several six point bulls were spotted and I ended up taking a nice 6X5 bull after missing a very large 6X6 bull. My hunting partner shot a large 5X4 Mule Deer buck with a spread just under 30 inches. We passed up several animals. My partner missed shots at nice bull Elk and I missed a very large Mule Deer buck just a short walk from our camp. (It must have been my scope). The area held plenty of game and we had plenty of opportunity to fill all our tags. On a final note, the food at Shepp Ranch itself and in hunting camp is outstanding. One night we had fresh Salmon with a pepper and fruit salsa for dinner. Another evening we had Cornish Game Hens with a great sauce. Every morning well before light, the cook and/or our guide would wake us up by comming into our tent and shoving a hot cup of coffee in front of our cold nose and then start the fire in the wood stove. By the time I struggled out of my sleeping bag, the canvas tent was nice and warm even though it was way below freezing outside. Its a good thing the mountains are so steep and rugged and require so much hard work to climb; otherwise I might have gained some weight on the trip. Even if we had not fired a single shot during the hunt, I would still rate Shepp Ranch as the finest hunting experience I have ever encountered. In the event you fail to fill a tag, it wouldn't be from a lack of effort by the guide. Shepp Ranch is not only a well run operation, the fine group of people that operate Shepp Ranch are simply wonderful hosts.By the way, I have no connection to Shepp Ranch except for the pleasure of hunting there for the first time in late October of last year. My other outfitting trips don't come close to the quality of Shepp Ranch. It is truly a great hunting experience.

Went lion hunting with Clint on the 22nd of Dec. 2000. We hunted hard for a track and after 5 days we had seen numerous tracks from bobcats to lions, the weather was not to cooperative and it was hard to tell how old the tracks were, we finally found a track we could run the dogs on and the chase was on. The dogs were great, they had that lion treed in a little less than an hour, there were 3 other lions on that mountain for sure. After a good little hike we got that lion.Clint is a hard working guide who will do everything he can to get you to the game. If your lucky his Dad Glen will show up, this guy has done some hunting.Overall this was probably the funnest hunt I have ever been on. The family is very friendly and I felt comfortable from day one. I would recommend any one who is interested in hunting the big cats to check out Buckshot Outfitters in Sandpoint, ID.

It is as good if not better than the western canadian provinces, and Boulder Creek Outfitters want you to get your animal just as much as you do and they work their tails off to accomplish that goal.
