I went with a party of 5 for the opening week of deer season. The stands in in very poor condition and the we only spotted 5 deer total the entire trip. 1 spike and 4 does. The camp between 2 sts of hunters only got 1 scrawny 6 point. One party left early as they did not want to waste their time any longer. I hunt with outfitters every year and this is the worst one ever.

my friends and I have been on many hunts but this one took the cake. TOM LONG prommised the world but couldnt deliver. our first day had us running arround trying to find him. when we finaly did locate him on the phone he demanded we come to his house to pay the remainder balance. after we settled the accounts he began writing directions to our stands.we bucked him imediatly on that because it was not what we pre arranged. even so he only guided two of the four the next day. then he shows us an average 9 pointer that his DAUGHTER killed that a.m. the next day he shows us a nice 8 pointer that his buddy killed on a stand that he tried to give us directions to.day three his guide kills a small 4pointer.

I took a group of 5 to the Magnolia Lodge and I saw 5 deer total for 3 days hunting. My group saw the same 3 (dog sized)deer when they ran past our stands and 3 of the guys didn't see any other deer. I was very disappointed in the hunt and I go on a hunting trip every year. This was by far the worst experience. There were 25 hunters there over 2 separate 3 day hunts and only 1 small buck was taken. The group that was there for the opening 3 days saw 3 total deer. Several members of the first group did not hunt their 3rd day and went home early. Everyone was thoroughly disappointed. I did not complain openly, but many of the guests did. Just an FYI I know how I felt since I Organized this trip.

Mike Porter, Fairfax VAI hunted at Red Oak Nov.18-20, 2002. I saw only a few deer on my hunt. I would have appreciated a better understanding up front of all expenses, ie 15%tip for guides on top of that already paid, and the fact that a $300 penalty is assessed for substandard bucks. Had I known this I would not have gone. If I go with another guide service I will ask a lot more questions next time. Hunters be advised: the weights quoted for deer are live weight, not dressed. Northern hunters will be disappointed at the small size of the mature deer down there. I will say one thing: plenty of food. My recommendation is do not book with this guide, unless you like liars and cheats.

Hello: I hunted with this outfitter two seasons ago and killed a very nice eight point. The outfitter leases thousands of acres of pine forest with a limited number of food plots. Every year his clients kill many deer including some real slammers. The only reservations I would tell about are that the stands are not always well thought out. The method this outfitter employs seems to be primarily surrounding large sections of southern pine forrest with many hunters and letting nature take it's course. There are so many deer here that sooner or later you are going to see some. And also a fair number of bears are around too. I hunted with this guide during the rut and I feel that was the key as the deer readily responded to rattling and calling. I killed two bucks while here and think with a little luck you will have shooting with this outfitter. My opinion and overall rating would have to be good.
