Outfitter Review: Oran Hill Outfitter - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Oran Hill
Hunter: Sammy Davis
Animals Hunted: Whitetail deer
I hunted this outfitter in 2007. There were 5 in camp and no one saw a deer. The house you stay is about 100 years old. The slop you have to eat on Friday night, you have again on Saturday with a little extra spice. Breakfast was good though, your normal breakfast food. Steven the guide and Oran's grandson is a pretty nice guy but Oran grouchy old man. This place is extremely over hunted. It's 900 acres with 20 stands and feeders. They have up to 10 hunters per weekend, way too much for this property. Stay away from this place, it's a rip off!

We had an awesome time; as always hunting at the Flying A Ranch. Mr. Newsome has a terrible temper and we will leave it at that. His customer service skills have lots of room for improvement.
Outfitter Review: Mesquite Bowhunting - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Gerald Garrett
Hunter: Don Leslie
Animals Hunted: Exotics, Hogs, WT Deer
I have hunted several times with Gerald and have allways had a great time. Gerald works very hard to put you in the right spot. He will move stands and make ground blinds to give you the best chance to take the game your after. During my last hunt on 22-23 Dec 07, I took a nice 8 pt wt and saw alot of other hogs and exotics. I would highly recommend this hunt to any bow hunter.
Outfitter Review: B & B Outfitters - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Bucky Bonner
Hunter: Joe Foreman
Animals Hunted: whitetial deer , javelina , rio grand turkey
My wife & I booked this hunt because we have always wanted to hunt Texas but we were not interested in a high-fence operation. The hunt was primarily for her because I thought it would be relatively easy.I am also a licensed hunting guide for the state of Montana so I know what is important in this business and what questions to ask. This turned out to be one of the most enjoyable hunts I have ever been on.Everything about the hunt was way more then we expected. On a 4 day hunt we saw 78 different bucks, several flocks of rio grande turkeys , many javelina , elk , and predators.Everyone in camp had the same results and all harvested great animals. Bucks averaged from the upper teens to upper 130s.(Bucky also has a trophy ranch but this hunt is such an incredible bargain and we saw bucks in the 140 class.) There are tower blinds , pop-up blinds , tri-pod blinds , ground blinds. You can spot and stalk , you can rattle , you can hunt safari style from a jeep.It is just positively incredible. We had the time of our lives but more important , we met 2 of the most fun-loving , caring , and honest people ever. Bucky and Leesa Bonner. Check it out. You won't be sorry.Joe Foreman
Outfitter Review: Adobe Lodge - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Skipper Duncan
Hunter: Carroll Lineberger Jr
Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer
We have hunted with other outfitters and the staff and the game at Adobe Lodge are the best I have been with. Our group killed a 129 B&C 8 point a 125 B&C 8 Point and a 136 B&C 10 point. I saw 30-40 8 point bucks that were 15-18 inches wide and 2 1/2 olds. Look out next year it should be a good one. I can not say enough about the people you feel like you have known them all your life from the minute you meet them. Greg, our guide for my father and me had a great attitude and was very hard working for us and other hunters in camp. Hunt with Skipper and Kyle at the Adobe Lodge and you will not be disappointed. Check out his web site and you will see ALL of the deer they have killed this year not the top 10. www.adobelodge.com Call or Email me if you want to talk more about it.
Outfitter Review: Oran Hill Outfitters - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Oran Hill
Hunter: Rodger Gant
Animals Hunted: Whitetail
I hunted 2 weekends during the 2007 season. Both times there were 5 of us in camp including Oran and the guide. No one saw any animals either time. Except the guide, on the second weekend. He killed a pig on Friday night and on Saturday afternoon a pickup pulled up and it was 2 of the guides friends who wanted to hog hunt only that night. One of them killed a pig that night. This tells you what type of people Oran and the guide are!!!! Hook their friends up but the out of towner!!! The house was a dump and the food wasn't good either. Your Friday night leftovers are your Saturday night side dishes. Oran promised a dutch oven cooked cobbler when I made my reservations but we didn't have enough people in camp either time. I paid $700 for the 2 weekends but that wasn't enough for the ingredients I guess? This was a Hill Country hunt but this must be the only place in the Hill Country without whitetail deer. Stay away...very far away from Oran Hill Outfitters.
Outfitter Review: Los Grandotes - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Jack Wardlaw
Hunter: Ed Lee
Animals Hunted: whitetail deer
This is the same family that has owned and operated the Rafter W Ranch for 25 years. I am partially disabled and all the personel did everything they could to make sure that this was a successful hunt. But more important than that, they made sure it was a fun hunt. I really enjoy hunting with these folks! And the hunting? Well, my huge 10 pointer was just shy of 27 inches wide.
Outfitter Review: Record Buck Ranch - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Charles Herndon
Hunter: Ed Lee
Animals Hunted: whitetail deer, hogs
Wow, awesome! There was game everywhere, including some GREAT elk and exotics. Great accomodations, food, and personel. I'm partially disabled and the personel went the extra mile to make sure I had a fun and successful hunt. I could have ended my hunt the first night with really nice animals, but held out because I wanted to hunt more. I saw many bigger animals but chose to harvest a very unique 130 class half typical and half non-typical buck and a huge boar.
Outfitter Review: Tom Ranch - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Edmund Tom
Hunter: Bill Alderman
Animals Hunted: Deer , Hog , Varmits
This will be my 10th year going to the Tom ranch and I must say that I look forward to it every year. It has changed every year for the good some years the hunting is better than others but that is not the fault of Edmund or J Pat thats old mother nature. I have hunted all over the world and can say with out a dobt that this is the most enjoyable hunt you will ever go on you will see plenty of game and be served fine food and the lodging is comfortable. They have good deer for the price and the hogs are as good as the come.

Outfitter Review: Circle H Ranch - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Charlie Harris
Hunter: Bobby Forchello
Animals Hunted: Whitetail
I came from North Carolina to hunt with Charlie. He welcomed me and showed me all his beautiful ranches. Unfortunately, I went home without a deer but I passed on several shooters. The last day I passed on a 130" 10 pt. Mr. Harris tried to get me to stay an extra day in hopes the 10 pt I seen the first day would come back out but I had to get back to work.
Outfitter Review: Raggedy Creek Ranch - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Rusty Moore
Hunter: Shawn Rogers
Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer
This was for the archery hunt. They have 5 archery blinds, only 2 have produced deer, so the other 3 you are just waisting your time. I understand this is a fair chase hunt, but why put me somewhere that you know I will not see anything. You have to pay with credit card, so you also get a 3% surcharge for using the card! Hunted for 3 days and never seen a deer. Did see some turkeys, 2 of the guys that I went with shot button bucks, Rusty acted like he was mad about it. Trust me if we had seen other deer the buttons would still be walking, one of the guys, well it was his first deer. After paying to hunt and not seeing anything you start to shoot any deer. Lodge sleeps 5 but has hot water for 1. Advertised lodge states 3 bedroom, 2 bath, wrong again, it had 2 bedrooms and one bath, we also shared camp with rifle hunters, they got the good truck, we got the one with an exhaust leak, real piece of crap. BLinds were all metal, like hunting out of a 55 gallon drum, very loud. NEVER AGAIN....

Hunter: James
Animals Hunted: whitetail, hogs, turkey
I did well, 8pt and large hog on my hunt but I would not expect the same. Our group were bow hunters and apparently before us no one had been doing well at all. I think the cold snap was the only reason we saw anything at all. Coming from a state where public land is plentiful and game is fair I feel like I could have gotten the same thing for free from the National Forest. The meals in my opinion were the best thing about the place. I would save up a little more money for a place that manages game and doesnt just put out a metal box "blind" and a corn feeder. The cattle are plentiful on this place too and come and go all while you are hunting. Our guide Wendell was the best part of the trip.
Outfitter Review: BigWoods - TX
Outfitter / Owner: MacFarlane
Hunter: NEIL STOGDILL
Animals Hunted: WHITE TAIL/ HOGS
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, HUNT WAS NOT GUIDED OR SCOUTED. WE TOOK OURSELFS TO THE STANDS ALL BUT ONE DAY. ON ONE DAY THE STAFF WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND SO WE WENT ON OUR OWN, THE OTHER TIME WE WERE TOLD TO JUST GO TO THE FIRST TWO STANDS, ONE OF WHICH HAD A DEAD COW ABOUT 10 FEET AWAY. SPENT $2500.00 AND DIDNT SEE OR SHOOT A THING. WHEN I ASKED FOR A COMP HUNT OR REFUND I WAS TOLD NO. I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT THIS PLACE BUT I HOPE YOU GET THE PICUTRE.
Outfitter Review: Kothmann Creek Ranch - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Billy Kothmann
Hunter: Daniel Navo
Animals Hunted: Whitetail
We hunted hot 90 degrees with a full moon and the oaks dropping acorns in the thickets but the three in our group still managed to kill 9 deer, two nice management bucks that will be mounted. We were treated like they've known us forever, and the ranch is loaded with deer but you may have to hunt hard if the conditions aren,t just right. Looking forward to going back next year in hopes of taking one of the big ones that got away.
Outfitter Review: Texas Ltd - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Hugh Starr
Hunter: T. M. Grey
Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer
This is the most unprofessional run outfit I have ever hunted with. Hugh is a jerk from the first time you meet him until you leave. I do not know how he can call his hunting land managed because does no managing. You shoot what you want if you are lucky enough to see a 2-3 year old deer. I have hunted in alot of different places and states and this was the worst hunt I have been on. I know they kill a few decent deer each year but I know the success rate on a 120 B&C class deer has to be under 40%. 5 People in camp and only 2 deer killed. neither would score over 130. (115-120) If some on kills a deer he makes fun of them shooting it behind there back. (the guy ask for someone to sit with him and was denied) If you want to have a miserable time and spend alot of money for a over priced hunt with a first class Jerk and Liar call HUGH STARR. All I can say check this guy out real good if you think you are going to hunt with him. Look for another outfitter would be the best choice.

This hunt was very special to me. It was the first time my son and I have been able to get away together in 13 years and it meant allot to me how Don and Paul treated us. We felt like family and could not have asked for a more relaxing, exciting and enjoyable experience. If you want to hunt exotics you will not find a better place than North Texas Outfitters.
Outfitter Review: Texas Ltd - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Hugh Starr
Hunter: C. Sigmon
Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer
This was the rudest most obnoxious human being in Texas. The other outfitters in that area do not even like him. His ads say "close personal attention" we did not get hardly any attention just excuses. When you get in from a hunt he goes to bed and you do not see him again until time to leave and get dropped at a stand/blind. Stands are falling apart and he is so lazy he will not fix them you have to if you are going to have a seat to sit in. To make a long story short if you do not want to see alot of deer, not see any decent deer, be lied to and avoided for 5 days this is the place for you. If you want to be treated like a human and have a good time go somewhere else this guy is a jerk!!!!!!!! For more info send me a email.
Outfitter Review: JD Cox Country - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: J. D. Cox
Hunter: Derek
Animals Hunted: Deer
All I can say is WOW.JD wanted us to get there early to brush our stands up, we should have known then. Money was the very first thing we had to take care of. Stands were 6ft above the ground, no cover. Feeders worked about half of the time and when they did go off, it might dispense about a cup if you are lucky. JD advertises 550 acres.....about 200 acres is for his personal hunting, about 100 acres is for his pet deer,(yes I said PET DEER!), another 100 acres is his "trophey pasture" which he charges extra for, and 11 of us were hunting about 150 acres. If one person sneezed, all could hear. Only half of the 150 acres we were hunting would he allow you to shoot a doe becouse he did not want to risk shooting his pet deer. 11 HUNTERS, 3 DAYS, KILLED 1 DOE!!!!!!! Never got an " I'm sorry" or nothing. He was late every morning picking us up. He told one of the guests that once he gets his money, his part is done. 3 hunters paid for 6 days and left in 3. I could go on for days and days. JD is a crook and a joke.

This place is a money racket. We had 11 hunters hunt for 3 days and killed one doe! You only get to hunt about 100 acres and can see the other hunters from your stand. The stands have a boat seat and are so small you can't even put your feet down. The feeders only work half the time and only throw about 6 oz of corn. You can only kill doees on the B side and not the A side because he has pet deer on the A side! That is not a joke, he calls them Reba, and Gertrude.
Outfitter Review: Thompson Temple - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Thompson Temple
Hunter: Mason
Animals Hunted: Rams
This is my second hunt with Thompson in 3 months. He is very knowledgeable of the rams and he designed the Record of Exotics book. The first hunt I took a silver medal rambo and this last hunt I took a high bronze mouflon type ram. His prices are very reasonable as this is a "discount" ram hunt. The trailer or A frame where you stay is not the best but that doesn't bother me and there are hotels within 20 minutes. I saw numerous rams everytime I went out and he has them tagged so you know how much they are you dont have to guess. This is TX hill country and the terrian is very mountainous which makes this more of a hunt than most.

Outfitter Review: Bar E Ranch - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Larry/Tina Zimmerman
Hunter: Jerry Sakowski
Animals Hunted: Exotics/Hogs
Hunted August 07. Hunters included myself and two sons (14 and 12), both of which are very experienced archers for their young ages. I killed a decent Axis Buck (~26 inches) but slipped up on two very large Axis Bucks fighting while blood trailing the one I arrowed. Both of those Axis were over 30 inches. Almost wish I had held off a little longer, but on the other hand, that was the only shot at a shooter exotic that I had. My fourteen year old killed a nice Corsican Ram and my twelve year old didnt get a shot. My twelve year old was hunting a sheep package and actually had a good opportunity to take a Fallow buck, but couldnt on the sheep package. I upgraded his hunt to exotic during the middle of the hunt so he could have the choice of either sheep or exotic, but he never got another shot at either. I was surprised that the hunting for exotics and sheep was actually quite challenging, especially when you only have two days. On the other hand, each and every sit, each one of us had several shooter whitetails visit our stand locations. The whitetails seemed to have very little fear of humans. They were probably a little less cautious in August when they arent getting shot at, but I must say, I have never seen whitetails seemingly as tame as these. My overall impression was very good. The Zimmermans run a very nice operation and I found no discrepancies in their advertising material verse what the hunt is actually like. Accomodations were actually much better than I expected. If you like a challenge, I would recommend hunting exotics or the Super Exotics (like Red Stag). If you would like to shoot your first Whitetail, or take a youngster to shoot their first whitetail, this would be the place. As for hogs, our expectations were quite a bit higher than reality. Im sure there are plenty of hogs as we did see several after dark while riding back to camp (mostly in the NO HUNTING ZONE). However, to give Bar E the benefit of the doubt, Im sure that August is probably the worst time to hunt hogs during daylight hours. I will be going back. I am planning on taking my wife and daughter to hunt whitetails, and the boys and I will hunt exotics again.

Animals Hunted: Aoudad
This was my third trip to NTO - that alone should tell you something about what I think of them. The hunt was for a specific animal that I had seen on a hunt earlier this year - not the biggest but a phenominal specimen with swept back horns, a very deep chest and an amazing beard and chaps. We hunted hard for several days before we got a shot. It was a challenging hunt and Don Wade our guide worked his butt off to get us the shot. I am having the mount done by Don and his wife - the other mounts they have done for me have been exceptional and reasonably priced. Every day, we saw large numbers of spectacular trophies in a variety of species. It is always a great experience - they have great animals and know how to treat their guests and hunters.

Will say any type hunt there he will work with you, he has several other types of game that a possible could be arranged. April 19-20, 2007My wife (Cindy) has been tempted by the Pere David's Deer since our first visit to NTO 6 years ago. Everything finally fell into place and she got the opportunity to hunt him. She made a excellent shot at 55 yards with a crossbow thanks to careful postioning by our awesome guide, Don Wade. This was our 5th trip in the past year and Paul & Don have been fantastic in taking care of us and getting us the opportunities at the animals we were interested in. Can't possibly say enough good things about NTO!

Animals Hunted: Red Deer/Fallow Deer/Blackbuck
My daughter was hunting for a Chocolate Fallow doe to make a purse out of and ended up taking a large (~ 300 pound) Red Hind instead - because it was bigger! She made an a great shot with a 7mm-08 and was ecstatic with getting it. I then tried for a Blackbuck with my bow and kept getting teased by a monster Sika. I didn't get a shot, but planned to come back again for the Blackbuck. The guides were awesome as always! A great hunt & a great place to just visit!

Animals Hunted: Blackbuck/Sika
Two weeks earlier I had tried(unsuccessfully) to take a Blackbuck with a bow and also video a huge Sika buck. After watching the video for two weeks, it was going to be hard to choose between the Sika & the Blackbuck. I planned to set up for the Blackbuck initially, but if the Sika came through I'd take him. As luck would have it they both came through at the same time. The Blackbuck laid down at 28 yards and the Sika was walkin between us. My wife told me to picK! SO I took the Sika - he scored 154 2/8 ROE and is a potential #1. He should also plave in the top few of TGR. This was a Monster Sika and I was very fortunate to get him. Thanks to Paul/Don/Brian for another awesome hunt

Animals Hunted: Armenian Mouflon
April 7th, 2007 - North Texas and the Bluebonnets are blooming, trees are budding out and the weather changes! Nothing like 37 degrees and snow to get you in the mood to go hunting, we just didn't expect it here in April. These Armenian Mouflon are one of the wariest animals I've seen. I think they had eyes in the back of their head and were talikng to the other animals about where we were hiding. Spent a hard day & 1/2 of hunting and with some outstanding planning by our guide (Don Wade), we finally got a shot at huge Armenian Mouflon. He scored 318.1 and is a potential new record for archery in the TGR record book. He's a beautifull Ram and will get a Lifesize mount. Don worked extremely hard to get me a chance at this RAM and his expertise is greatly appreciated. Great guides, great food, and awesome people to hunt with.

Jim is a truly great guy. I will definitely be back
Outfitter Review: T Bar EnCino Ranch - TX
Outfitter / Owner: Jason Glass
Hunter: Nathanael Greene
Animals Hunted: Whitetail
I hunted Jason's ranch in early October of 2006, looking for a management whitetail buck (plus a cull buck). I had been on a doe hunt at T Bar EnCino in January of 2006 and was impressed enough to invest in a buck hunt for the following season. My experience was terrific. I am not an experienced whitetail hunter, and Jason was not only an excellent guide but an excellent teacher. We spent many hours in stands together, and I enjoyed his company as much as I enjoyed watching for deer (and there were many).Jason's ranch is high-fenced, which I know isn't to every taste, but at 1,000 acres, it's plenty big. Jason, who has a master's degree in wildlife management, really knows his stuff, and the work he has put into managing his deer herd has paid off. His deer are gorgeous--not the freakish super-huge monsters of some ranches, but nicely proportioned and just great to look at. If that weren't enough, the accommodations (in a cabin called "The Barn" because it's a rebuilt barn) is very comfortable, with plenty of room, a full kitchen, and full bathroom. "The Barn" has lots of rustic charm--so much so that my wife (a non-hunter) enjoys tagging along with me just to spend some quiet time in a peaceful place. And if *that* weren't enough, Jason's wife, Tammy, is an excellent cook; we enjoyed every single meal. Jason makes a point of eating with his hunters, which I appreciate. As for the hunting, we saw numerous management bucks, any of which I'd be proud to take. I bagged a 10-pointer, scoring 119 gross and a 5-point cull buck that scored 72. Jason has a modern processing shed, and cleaning/caping is included in the hunt price--a nice touch. My wife and I both had a wonderful trip. I'd recommend this hunt to anyone looking for a quality high-fenced whitetail hunt at a very competitive price. Email me for photos of my deer and some other photos of the ranch (accommodations, other wildlife, etc.) or if you have any specific questions.
Outfitter Review: Nolton Creek Bowhunting - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Les Zimmerman
Hunter: Warren Hatfield
Animals Hunted: Exotics, Wild Boar
After driving 15/28 hours to get to Nolton Creek, we were advised that Les had no Fallow deer,Sika deer,Black Hawaiian Sheep, Corsican Sheep or Texas Dall Sheep. We decided after driving all that distance to hunt for one small Fallow [Les finally said he had one small one], Wild Boar, Black Buck and Axis Deer. He had three or four very small[21-23"] Aoudads available. He said that the previous hunters had shot all of the animals and he wasn't able to find replacements. A friend of the Zimmermans said that they were not renewing the lease was the reason they were not replacing the animals. Needless to say the hunt was very bad. I was given a partial refund. The kitchen area was not sanitary and there was no leisure area [it was Les's living area]. A simple telephone call could have save a lot of lost memories and hard feelings!!!!!!

December 2006 was my first hunt at the Tom ranch, and I am planning a returm trip. Mr. Tom , his family and staff are all very friendly, knowledgable, and made my trip very enjoyable. Outfitter Review: Hog Hunting Texas - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Pete Ray
Hunter: Brooks Bolyard
Animals Hunted: hogs and javelina
Our group of five hunted three days for hogs and javelina in the second week of March, 2007. In total, we took home two hogs and three javelina, all with rifle. We had hoped to bowhunt for bacon, but we saw few pigs, none of which were in bow range during daylight hours. Three out of five guys had no shot opportunities at hogs, even with rifles. Three out of five guys saw no javelina. The cabin we stayed in was basic, but comfortable, and the food provided was very good. Our guide named Bill was a fine gentleman. He was friendly and very knowledgable, and I believe he tried hard to put us on hogs. This was my first experience with this outfit, but my fourth year in a row to hog hunt south Texas. While I did see some pigs at a distance, I saw less game on this trip than any other previous Texas hunt, and all of the places have been low-fence. This outfit does have access to many ranches, but my impression is that they have many hunters, leaving too few hogs and javelina. If you have any questions, feel free to email me for more details.

Animals Hunted: Hog
Let me say, this was my first guided trip. Paul, along with guides Don and Brian, have got the operation running like a well oiled machine. From the pickup at the airport, to our departure, there were no hitches. I hesitate to include the 60 mph winds on Saturday. You can't do anything about the weather, it made for a memorable hunt and I still saw plenty of animals. The accommodations comfortably held our 12 person group. Paul is an excellent cook. If you go away hungry it's your own fault. Don and Brian will take care of your hunting desires and show you a good time doing it.My goal was to shoot a hog. On the third day I got a nice boar with the pistol, my first. Had a great time hunting. Great bunch of folks will make you feel at home. NTO is a first class operation.

Animals Hunted: Red Deer,Fallow,Sheep,Blackbuck,etc...
Flying A Ranch has always been a treat. The game on the ranch is managed better than I have seen in a long time. The facilities are outstanding and the staff is great! Keith and Chad have worked very hard with their staffs help to portray all the amneties of a great hunt, great food, magnificent lodging and an over all good hunt! My hat is off to these guys for the stresses that they and the guides have endured to make myself, family and friends so many memories in the field!

Hunter: Mike Cochran
Animals Hunted: hog/javelina
Chris and Maria are first rate hosts. Saw lots of game. Buddy and I took 6 hogs and 2 javelinas in 2 1/2 days. We will definately go back. If you want a javelina it is definately the place to go. Be picky, you will see a lot of them. The hog hunts are good too. More set up for rifles than bows, but stalking javies would be a hoot with a bow. Hunted with them Feb. 2006.

This would be a great ranch for hunters just starting out, taking my two 12 years old boys in 2008 for a great expeirence.
Outfitter Review: Nolton Creek Bow Hunting - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Tina & Larry Zimmerman
Hunter: Warren Hatfield
Animals Hunted: Axis,Fallow,Blackbuck, Sika
After driving 26 hours, our Outfitter Les Zimmerman advised us that he had no Fallow deer, Sika deer, Black Hawaiian Sheep, Texas Dall Sheep or Corsican Sheep, that previous hunters had shot them out and he could not find decent replacements. A simple telephone call could of saved us a long, long trip!! We could of rescheduled when Les had restocked the ranch or could of requested a refund. A friend of the Zimmerman's emailed me that he was not surprised as the Zimmerman's were not going to renew their lease, due to Nolton Creek being up for sale. He said that he knew that they were not replacing the shot animals. It cost me a lot of money, but more important was the "lost" good hunt memories, with my brothers. I hope that this does not happen to any other fellow bowhunters!!!!Warren Hatfield

Animals Hunted: Hogs, Javelina
This was my first trip to the ranch and there were four of us in our group. I took a nice sow, and everyone in our group had opportunities at hogs. We also saw javelina, bobcat and too many deer to count. The Tom family are warm, genuine people and work hard to find you game. This is a great place to go for your first Texas hunt and we are looking forward to returning for another visit!

I forgot to post this information from my previous hunt with NTO. I shot a mammoth corsican at 11 yards with my bow. Spot and stalked in the outback. It was an awesome experience. Don was on his game as usual and I must say that he truly makes our hunts as enjoyable as they are. I recommend NTO to anyone who is interested in a fantastic hunt. If anyone would like more details give me a holler.

Animals Hunted: Texas Dall Ram,Hogs
I and My fiance went to Dos plumas on a Two Day Hunt. We were suppose to meet owner Allen Williams at the Abilene airport.Instead he arranged a flight on the same plane we were on and flew with us from Dallas to Abilene, So as you can see he made a very good impression and kept it up the whole time. Any questions i had he was happy to answer and suggested many ways to get me on the animal i was looking for. Allen and his wife were very good to us and made our hunting trip very comfortable and fun, the Food was Great as well as the hunting and hospitality. On the morning we left Allen took us out for breakfeast and then to the airport in a timely manner and off I was with my new Texas Trophy! I'm looking forward to hunting Dos Plumas ranch again and also eating some of the great meals prepaired by lori! Thanks again Allen and Lori For makeing our Texas Hunt A memorable one! Cody and Amy

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Doe (meat hunt)
Bought this meat hunt on E-bay pretty cheap. Never dreamed that we would not kill a doe in Edwards county. Had to share the lodge (old store) with a guide called catfish and a baby goat. Guide slept on the couch in the living room. Bunkbeds worst I have ever seen. Food was bad except for one meal that Crystal fixed. Corn feeders were empty and had been empty for qhite a while. Had to drive my own truck 100 mile round trip from lodge to hunting area. Did this twice and saw no deer except on the road. Was mislead about the hunt. They gave a raincheck for November 2007. Probably wont be in business by then.

I booked a 4-day hunt for a mature 8 point. I had a great hunt. Saw lots of deer 120-135 class. Harvested a chocolate horned 127in buck on first morning. Also took cull deer (7 pt), does, and missed a turkey. Great hunt, great people, and amazing food. You can't go wrong with this outfit. I was told the lack of rainfall made this a poor year for antler growth, I can't wait to see a good year!

Just returned from our 4th trip to the Tom ranch. Got a nice boar hog within 10 minutes of being in the blind. Next day got a whitetail buck and the morning of our last day got a doe and javelina. Four animals in three days and we had a blast. They are great people and everything they advertise is true. If your planning a trip to South Texas to hunt you cannot go wrong by choosing the Tom ranch. Call me if you have doubts and we can talk about it.

This ranch is awesome its 1000 acres of thick brush loaded with a ton of deer and 130 to 150 inch bucks seen daily. Its a bowhunting operation only. Every hunt ive been on ive seen 90 to 100 deer a weekend and 90% bucks. Had a shot at a nice 8 and blew it. Jacob is a great guy and he makes you feel like its your own place. And the prices are reasonable

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer
Hunted 12/28-12/30. The weather conditions were less than ideal as we had warm weather and wind. During the 3 day hunt I saw app. 50-60 bucks w/ several being 3.5 year old 8 pointers. The overall number of deer seen was mind boggling!! I had my hopes set on at least a 130" buck, but that never presented itself. I harvested a 9 point buck w/ a 16" outside spread that scored app. 110. It is probably one of the best fair chase hunts available in Texas. Conditions have to be perfect for a mature 130"+ buck. The Moore's run a very nice operation.

This hunt was set up to allow my 15 year old son to take his first deer. Pete and his staff did everthing possible to ensure we had fun, success, and good time. The accomadations were very comfortable and private. The ranch is a work in progress and the Ray's attention to detail is evident in the buildings as well as the hunts. The lodge is filled with trophies and artifacts, there are hundreds of stories waiting to be told. This is a great place to stay and hunt and will only get better.
Outfitter Review: South Texas Trophy hunting - Texas
Outfitter / Owner: Charlie Harris
Hunter: Larry Ludlam
Animals Hunted: White Tail Deer
This hunt was a rip-off plain and simple. In my opinion the outfitter and guide make a great scam team. If after reading this you still want to book with Charlie, you had better get his rules in writing and have them notarized, because he changes them. His "guide" takes you to your ground blind (all blinds were ground blinds), spreads a little corn and then comes back to gets you. He was extremely late in doing that for two of the morning hunts.Apparently no one had shot anything at this "ranch" this year because while cleaning a very immature 8 point with a 13" spread that one guy had shot, he had to dump some old toys and junk out of an old cooler to use as a catch tub. There was an argument about this 8 pointer being too small and not mature even though the horns were outside the ears. It was just a whole bunch of little things that weren't right that made this hunt a nightmare. One hunter ask the guide to spread more corn as the deer would come out, eat what was there and leave. What guide in his right mind wouldn't do that, unless he didn't want to spend any more money then absolutely necessary. You hunters out there know that it is all the little things that when done right, make for a great hunt. I honestly believe that Charlie and his guide paid no attention to the little things as their minds were only on one big thing; Our money.

Animals Hunted: Rio Grande Turkey - 2005
When I went to book my hunt, I didn't know my exact work schedule. Jim bent over backwards to work w/ me on changing the booking dates. I first hunted Triple C in Spring 2005. Saw good mature turkeys. Passed on multiple jakes. Harvested a long beard 1st hour of 1st day when 2 gobblers came in. I chose not to take 2nd bird that quick. 2nd day called in numerous jakes but was holding out for mature bird. Other long beards responded on 3rd day but never would come close enough for a shot. Had action on every hunt of a 3 day hunt. Also, over 3-day hunt, I saw approx. 150 Mouflon and Corsican sheep. I was treated excellent while @ the Lodge. Triple C personnel tried in every way to accomodate me while I was there, i.e. my preference in food, how long I wanted to stay in field, did I want a guide or not, etc. Even though I was not on a full-guided hunt, the guides were very helpful and quick to answer any questions or concerns I had. I was really impressed on how Safety was stressed while ensuring that I was having a great experience. There are bunk beds and regular beds, multiple restroom/bathrooms, walk-in cooler. The nightly campfires was enjoyable also. Overall, I felt as if I was part of the family and I booked a hunt for Spring 2006 before I left. They even stay in touch w/ me throughout the non hunting part of the year.

Triple C is a family owned and operated business whose first priority is client satisfaction and safety. It is the type of operation that you want to bring your wife or son/daughter to for their first quality hunting experience. My family and I have known these folks for several years, and are already "chomping at the bit" to get back there. As far as the success rate goes, I need to say that this is definitely not a "canned" hunt. There are no gaurantees that you will make a kill and sometimes you will have to work to get the animal you want, but these factors underscore the true meaning of what hunting is, and the probability that you will get what you come for is very high! God help all hunters everywhere in this country if "canned" rather than "actual" hunts become the order of the day in America! I took a 120-lb whitetail doe and a large raccoon with Triple C in November of 2006. The meat is now almost gone, the raccoon will be made into a "coonskin cap" with Triple C's assistance, and my 11-year old daughter, who has never hunted prior to this experience, was able to come with me each time I went out. She is already bugging me for her first rifle! Need I say more?

Animals Hunted: Whitetail and Exotics
November 16-20,2006 A father and son whitetail hunting trip to Dos Plumas Ranch, referred by another satisfied Dos Plumas customer. This was the first time I've ever booked an outfitter or hunted in Texas. From the first moment we were met at the Airport in Abeline by Dos Plumas Ranch Owner,Allen Williams we were treated as though we were part of his family. The personal service and attention afforded to his customers rivals the type of attention you would expect from an up-scale resort hotel. The accommodations are Texas-rustic but very clean and comfortable. Lori Williams is a tremendous cook! Anyone who opt's for the inclusive package(and you want the food package, believe me!)will be very pleased with her Texas home cooking.I came to Texas to take a trophy deer and saw two that fit the bill but I could not close the deal. I saw plenty of other nice whitetails that most would be happy with. I took a nice doe for the freezer, which you can do on almost any hunt from your stand. My son didn't close on a shooter either but he took a very nice Black Hawaiian Ram that he and I spent the better part of an afternoon stalking. He was very pleased with his trophy exotic. I booked our 2007 father and son hunt before we left an also booked a spring turkey hunt for us both to take advantage of our out-of-state Texas license that is still good through August of 2007. I think Allen and Lori Williams set the bar for delivering service and quality their clients at an unusually affordable price point. Now, I hunt Texas!

Hunted whitetail, hogs, & axis deer with my 13-year-old son in South Texas & Hill Country. Clay & his staff definitely aim to please, took 2 nice whitetail bucks on first 2 days of hunt, could have shot many more if I could have found a way to get the meat back home. My son also shot a trophy size hog & a meat hog, once again, could have taken many more.Tried for axis deer on the last day of hunt; unfortunately none of the many we saw came within shooting range.Nice people, plenty of game, fair rates-can't wait to go back to Texas again. Clay even assisted with shipping my trophies back home to take to the taxidermist.

Dos Plumas Ranch is an excellent hunting man's ranch with a lot of quality game and a variety of game. It has been set up very nicely for either bow hunt or rifle. Allen and his family run a great operation and make you feel like you are one of the family. One of the biggest things I got out my time at the ranch was a friendship with his entire family that I knew would not end when I left. At the ranch you have your choice of either to bring your own food or have them prepare it for you. On this hunt, I brought my own food and I enjoyed cooking out on the smoker Allen provides for you. He has set it up very nice for those who want to cook. The bunkhouse is made for hunters and it is very comfortable with all the amenities that you will ever need.As far as the hunt goes, Allen does the guiding and he had me seeing game everytime I went out. I bowhunted and I was able to take a very nice 8 point buck that will score over 120. I am already making plans to come back next year a couple of times. One for hog and one for deer. Allen has made the hunts very affordable and for the quality game you cannot beat it. I know the area very well and I know out there you have a real chance to take a real trophy buck.I am definitely a customer for life but most important, a friend. Thank you very much Allen and Lori.

A great place to hunt. Plenty of animals to see and take. Down home atmoshpere and very hospitable family run operation. Guide/owner likes to interact with his clients on his ranch. Well work your money spent and not overly priced. Your treated well and all hunters are given personal attention from the guide. All hunters were spaced out and not hunting upon one another...miles apart. Different techniques and approaches utilized in taking game if one is not working. A very good place for youth to have a chance to get to know hunting and see animals. I will definitely be a return hunter to Dos Plumas Ranch in Trent, Texas run by Allen and Lori Williams.

I was talked into a "special" Fathers Day hunt, so I brought the family. There was 1 guide, also the cook and host. The girls got an ok meal the first night, my son and I had nothing to eat the morning of the hunt, no water, nothing. The host was guiding for us so the girls were left alone with nothing to eat. I was promised a "special meal" for Fathers Day but after the morning hunt was told that I could either heat up left-overs or make a sandwich. So, we left about 2pm and finally ate 2 hours later on the road. No game was taken and although I paid the "kill fee" up front for a "guaranteed" hunt...and...Jim & Crystal agreed to return the fee, I have not received the refund 4 months later and at this point, they have quit returning my calls and emails. These people have poor facilities & service.

Bought a "meat hunt" on eBay with these folks. We got the hunt cheap, so maybe I expected too much. Shared the "lodge" with the owners and their young children, in diapers. We had 1 bedroom with cheap bunkbeds for the 6 of us. A/C was provided by window units, and was inadequate in the front room. Pool table was almost unplayable. No soap in the men's room. Shower had very low water pressure. Food was cheap, with lots of rice and beans. We had a casserole topped with tostitos one night that we were told were "enchiladas." The next night, we had wieners with bbq sauce and beans. We did have some good aoudad sausage and biscuits for breakfast one morning... When we hunted, our "guide" dropped 3 of us off under the same cedar tree, providing us only with fold out chairs. We weren't warned of the mosquito/gnat/fly problems we would soon encounter. Only two of our party ever saw any game, and that was from the truck. (One guy did go stalk on his own and saw game the second day.) Truck we were taken out in blew a tire one night and a transmission the next day... We ended up leaving early, thankful that we had brought enough beer to provide our own fun.

My son and I hunted at Kramers. Purchased my son a ram hunt for his birthday. Kenny went out of his way to make my son's hunt a success. Used Kenny only as the outfitter- did not stay at his place or have meals. Did see his accommodations and they were first rate. Had an excellent talk with him about Texas wildlife. Very knowledgable. Had our ram chilled and processed. Packaged meat was ready when he stated it would be. Would like to go back, but time and money (started new job) too short. Also distance (over 1000 miles one way).

Animals Hunted: Fallow Deer, Blackbuck, Hogs
I just spent 2 days (August 19 & 20, 2006) bowhunting exotics and feral hogs. During my stay I was treated like I owned the place. Alan and his family go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and fun. Dos Plumas is a well thought out and executed ranch set up for both bow and firearms hunters. During my stay I saw animals every time I was out. Although I never managed to harvest an animal, there were several opportunities that for one reason or another didn't provide for a clean shot. Alan did his job and got me on the critters, I just couldn't close the deal. But I do not measure the success of a hunt by what I manage to kill. I measure it by how much I enjoy myself and the people I am with, and let me tell you, I had a heck of a good time on this one. Don't come expecting fancy resort style living and someone walking your animal out on a leash for you to shoot. Alan runs a good working mans ranch that is rustic with a comfortable bunkhouse with full kitchen and bath and satellite TV for after the hunt. He also provides a fun and challenging hunt for free roaming animals that are very weary of humans. All at a very affordable price. If you want more info you can check out Alan's website at www.dosplumasranch.com. Tell him Mike from Michigan sent you.

We tried with the crossbow, but just couldn't get close enough, so she switched to a rifle and dropped her Gold Medal Oryx in it's tracks at 216 yards (her farthest shot ever!). Hunter: Noel Evans
Animals Hunted: Whitetail, Hogs, Javelina and Turkey
When I found this site today I was shocked to see some of the comments on the Circle H. I have been hunting with Charlie for several seasons now and have nothing but good things to say. I bow hunt and have always had tons of animals on every hunt. I have arrowed one buck that was in the mid 120's, but I have seen 2 or 3 in the 140's and one monster that I think would have been in the 160's. I have never seen a ranch that was over hunted. Charlie has 8 or 9 ranches to hunt on. Some of them are bow hunt only and on the bow only ranches I have never been on a sit without seeing less than 15 deer. Charlie watches how many does are taken off the ranches so they don't get over harvested. I live in TX and have 3 ranches that I can hunt for free, but I still choose to hunt with Charlie. I have met and became friends with about 15 hunters that have been hunting with Charlie for over 12 seasons and they have always told me good stories about past hunts. I've found the place I'll pay to hunt any time any day.

In December, 2005, I had the pleasure of a two-day feral hog hunt at the Dos Plumas Ranch. I admit, I'm not a very experienced big-game hunter, but Allen went out of his way to make sure I had an enjoyable experience, and made the extra effort to teach me along the way. I bagged two nice eating hogs in two days, and saw a lot of game, from turkeys to whitetail. The bunkhouse accommodations were more than comfortable, with a full bathroom and even a complete kitchen. In every aspect, this was a perfect hunt--lots of game, comfortable lodging, and a guide who not only knows his stuff but treats guests like family. And all at a very reasonable price. It's been six months since I hunted there, and when I look back on this hunt, I still think, Wow!

I got a Javalina but we did not get hogs. Although my Son passed on a few. We still had a great time and would like to go back and do it again. We left the ranch feeling as we were leaving old friends.

Animals Hunted: Wild Hog
Joe and Sue Langley have about one of the best set ups going. We arrived in Centerville, TX on Friday and Joe immediately took my father and brother-in-law out to show us his families cattle ranch were we would be hunting. That eventing he showed back up and brought us a homemade cake his wife had made for us. He then proceeded to explain how that evenings hunt would go. We were each put in either stand or ground blind locations. My father and I both saw good size hogs but it was so late in the evening that it was hard to see so we passed. However, my brother-in-law harvested a good sized bore. My father and I both were set in stands the next following morning and both were able to harvest nice sized hogs. This was all capped off by Joe and his families outstanding hospitality. There was free varmint (coyote, bobcat, squirrel, etc) hunting and Joe and his son-in-law (Randy) went out of there way to put who in blinds or drive you all over their ranch to get the shot you needed. In the end, my father and brother-in-law took 4 hogs. We stayed in Joe's camphouse that was old and rustic, but had all the amenities you need on a hunt. There is also a walk-in cooler to store your meat after harvest. The entire trip only cost me $257 and that included Joe and Randy skinning, cleaning and boning out the meat and putting it on ice for our trip home. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to be treated right and enjoys an excellent hunting experience. I know I'm going back next year!

2nd time with NTO and I must say that it just keeps getting better and better. The quality of the animals is amazing. When you meet Don and Paul you would think they have known you for years. Two of the most personable guys I have ever met. Another memorable hunt and can't wait to go back. Give NTO a call. I can assure you it will be an experience of a lifetime.

Animals Hunted: Quail
It was a very dry year and the dogs had trouble getting on the quail. Though we did average 10 - 12 coveys a day, the coveys tended to be small with a few exceptions. They could have used a few more dogs as the warm, dry weather resulted in wearing out the dogs early. The main lodge was undergoing renovation so we stayed in a mobile home, which was comfortable, but not luxurious. Roseann is a gourmet cook! Lunch and dinner were incredible. Given a little more moisture, I believe both the quail population and the ability of the dogs to pick up the scent will improve, though this was not a bad hunt at all. Ken, Roseann, and the rest of the people were good to be around. They work hard for you.

NTO and Paul Cantrell are first class and dedicated to providing you with the hunting experience that you personally are looking for. Don Wade is a first class guide with tons of experience and a personality that is worth the price of the hunt (which by the way is extremely reasonable!). They go out of their way to make sure you have a great time, a memorable experience and that you harvest an animal that you can be proud of.

Another great hunt at NTO! Can't say enough good things about this place, saw SO many animals out there. It is just amazing. We got there Friday afternoon and scouted Friday night, the stalk was on saturday morning. We laid some corn out on the tree line and the rams and hogs came to breakfast. I shot me a nice Texas Dahl ram, Great hunt and can't wait to go again!

Animals Hunted: Hogs/javelina
There were two hunters in our party. I killed a hog and a javelina. My hunting partner killed two hogs. You can't be around a better bunch of guys then J. Pat and Edmund. We had a great time, saw lots of animals and the sleeping quarters were excellent. All I can say is, we killed four animals in two days, enjoyed our stay and left feeling that we made some new friends. I just can't say enough good about them.

Animals Hunted: Hogs, Javelina
Took my 9 year old son on his first hunt and had a fantastic overall experience. If you can't shoot a Javelina on this ranch with the weapon of your choice, you need to find another sport. We each killed Javelina and my son killed a hog and missed a large boar. Had several other hog opportunities that didn't pan out due to my son's inexperience. Chrisopher was a great host and really maintains a great ranch.

Animals Hunted: Deer and all
Sorry for the delay, been busy. My son and I returned for the 3rd time to the Tom ranch the day after Christmas in 2005. The first morning I took a nice buck in the free roam area where my son took his 1st buck last year. During the course of our stay we saw lots of deer, hogs and javelina. I took a hog and my son got his 2nd buck and a javelina. I almost got a bobcat but was not quick enough. The Tom ranch is a Great place with friendly, helpful folks who make you feel right at home. Oh, and the hunting action is non-stop.

Animals Hunted: Hogs/Javelina
My wife and I hunted for hogs and javelina from March 2nd-5th, 2006. Chris and his wife Maria are honest and straightforward. The blinds are set up for rifle hunting, watching senderos and feeders. We were focusing on bowhunting, so we spotted down the senderos from the stands, and stalked from there. The ranch is LOADED with javelina, and great deer. We hunted mornings and evenings, and each sat in different locations every time. My wife saw hogs on 4 out of 6 hunts, and I saw hogs 2 of 6 hunts. The ranch is also covered with coyotes. I saw 15 yotes in 4 days, and I wasn't even calling them. We would have brought home more ham if we used the rifle more, but it was a great time.

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer
I’ve hunted with All American Outfitter for over 7 years. During this period, my wife and I have hunted dove, quail, turkey, hogs, and of course deer (white-tail and mule deer). Although the bird and hog hunts are exceptionally good, the focus of this review is on their deer hunts. I hunt in multiple states (Midwest, and western states for various big game species), but when it comes to deer, I consider my hunts with AA Outfitter the highlight of my season. In a nut shell, this outfitter provides: a variety of quality properties, reliable scouting data, honest & knowledgeable guides, exceptional trophy potential and excellent lodging/meals – not to mention their warm hospitality and the 5 star meals! My experience with this outfitter has been very good - and my hunts have been successful. With the exception of shooting opportunities that we chose to pass up (holding out for larger trophies) my wife and I have harvested deer ranging from around 130 class to 150 (green) for white-tail and 26”+ mule deer with this outfitter. Last season (Nov 2005) I harvested a unique rack with forked brow-tines. In my experience the racks in this area are generally symmetrical with long tines and most have very good mass. I have had the opportunity to hunt from ‘box blinds’, as well as some very exciting ‘spot & stalk’ opportunities. The owners of this operation are themselves avid hunters and committed to conserving their natural resources/environment. All American Outfitter is a ‘class act’ and I highly recommend them.

Animals Hunted: Hogs
Tom and his son Brian run a great operation. You get what you pay for plus quite a bit more. The food was outstanding and plenty of it. The bunkhouse was a little "rustic" but had all of the amenities - bed, bathroom, heat, refrigerator, separate dining area, etc..There were 6 of us on a 2 day hunt and we took 11 hogs! When we arrived, the weather was changing from 75 degree high to 30 degree high and everything changed. But, Brian and the other guides had backup plans and did quite a bit of scouting before we arrived. At first you might think the "guide" is just a delivery driver to your stands but you soon realize he did his guiding before you got there which is why we all shot pigs from the blinds they recommended. The last day we had one guy who had missed a couple of opportunities and Tom offered to take us back out on the departure morning(not part of the included hunt) and drove around several hours until we found hogs and put a couple more down. The guides were at camp and they even helped field dress and quarter(not part of the included hunt since we should've been driving home by then). They just said it'd go faster with all of us doing it - and it did!Great people. Great hunt. We'll be booking for next year.
