Outfitter Review: Safari Nordik - Blainville QC

Outfitter / Owner: Bernard Domingue

Hunter: Jim Banducci

Animals Hunted: Quebec-Labrador Caribou

I just recently returned from a guided hunt with safari nordik. And to say the least, I was so satisfied by this outfitter I rebooked for next season already. Having researched caribou in Quebec, for quite some time, and reading reviews across the board about Safari Nordik, I decided to make my own decision.( as you well know some people on the internet have some varied opinions and wild stories) I went to the SCI convention and met Kurt Santoro. An easy guy to get along with and very knowledgeable about the caribou and the logistics of my future trip. He assured me that he would personally guarantee my trip would be handled by the Safari nordik team from A to Z. His excitement about the hunt and not just being the salesman was easy to see. I did ask Kurt about the bad reviews on the internet. And he simply stated "do you believe everything you read on the internet?" Laughing, he simply said to me I read all that stuff to and unfortunately I cannot claim to you, everyone every time gets 100% satisfaction. I am very close to that satisfaction rate, but what sets me apart from the other outfitters is simple there are 2 things, I own my camps and hunt out of my camps, my competitors have to lease camps on a year to year basis from out of business outfitters and dont have any guarantee that they will have the camp from year to year and every competitor I have bad mouths me to no end and I will not plat that game of trash talk. I hunt caribou not slander others to make myself look good. Safari Nordic's closest competitor takes 3 years to hunt as many caribou as my clients do in one season. He said he had noticed over the years the target on his back by the other outfitters. What really got my trust for Safari Nordik was Kurts simple statement. He said Mr. Banducci, of all the garbage on the internet if you could tell me how many bad ratings we have compared to the amount of clients that choose to hunt with us and are completely satisfied I will give you a free hunt. Obviously I didnt know that. So Kurt pulls out of his folder about 25 copies of bad ratings by hunters, including a couple from this site as well as several others. He said over 700 hunters annually hunt with me and this is the majority of serious complaints about me, I am thinking that this satisfaction rate is extremely high. he said let me ask you a question about the chat rooms and things that float around. He said next time look at the code names of the individuals and how often they chime in and how often they mention a specific outfitter. You will quickly see it is usually the same person and are obviously promoting for the outfitter, and they have never even seen my operation. He said having said that, I dont compare myself to anyone else. my job is to get you in the right spot and safely and professionally execute a service to you that will make you "give me a good review on the net". Needless to say I trusted Kurt and booked my hunt. From the beginning everything went smoothly, just as Kurt had told me. From A to Z. I booked what they call the platinum package that included everything from my home airport and back. Once in camp we settled in. The caribou were scattered but there were enough bulls for the 11 hunters in camp to take 22 in just three days. Kurt said they have not seen big numbers of animals yet. I saw plenty. I also was able to take several ptarmigan and catch brook trout and lake trout. The food was perfect and the atmosphere was great. I remember Kurt every morning walking in with a huge smile on his face with a cup of coffee saying we gonna get em today. Always positive. and the other guides and cook were great as well. I cannot say enough about Safari Nordik. They exceeded my expectations and this trip has gone down as my most rememberable trip during my 50 years of hunting.

I had the good fortune to hunt with three other hunters from Utah. We hunted caribou at North Camp and were all tagged out by the end of the second day. Later we moved to Charlie Lake to hunt ptarmigan and fish for lake trout. Our guides were great and the camp staff was professional and the accommodations were clean and well kept. This was a truly enjoyable trip.

Animals Hunted: Bear

This occurred in June 2000. I was new to bear hunting and assumed their would be some guidance. 50 miles from any civilization, I was placed in a lawn chair on the ground 50 yards from a bait bucket that was upwind from me. When I asked Don about being directly downwind from the bait bucket, he stated the bears will come from any direction. He left to deliver other hunters to their "stands". Before dusk,, I had a approx. 200 lb. bear sneak up to 5 paces from behind me coming toward the bait bucket that was upwind. It bolted when it recognized my presence. I was left at the site for approximately 2 (two) hours after dark before the guide came back to pick me up (dark moonless night). Almost everyone got a bear including me, the nimrod. However, I shot the first bear that appeared and gave me a shot after 4 days of intensive hunting. The guides were aloof and did not interact with the group I was with. They hung around with their buddies. Not what I would call a good quality hunt

It was a bad year (2007) for the Caribou migration in that area, but our camp still filled 16 out of 18 tags (much better than some other outfitters that week), including some nice bulls. Staff all very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Migratory animals are always hit-and-miss. Excellent ptarmigan hunting too.

Mike and his staff were outstanding. He accomodated me and my 12 year old son for his first bear hunt. We had a 7 person hunting party. We were 6 of 7. The one archery hunter missed his opportunity. My boys hunt was successful on the second day. His baits and stands are top notch. The sighting of trophy bears is likely...

Just returned home from my first caribou hunt to northern Quebec. Had a fantastic time. My hunting buddy and I killed our 2 bulls apiece, with 3 of them in the nice to great category. Everything was well organized and the camp life was outstanding. With 8 hunters in camp we killed 16 caribou and caught a lot of lake trout. Would do this hunt again anytime!

Outfitter Review: Leaf River Lodge - Quebec

Outfitter / Owner: Alain Tardif

Hunter: Robert Silha

Animals Hunted: Caribou

It has been tough to write this review. In the end, I took home trophies that I am very happy with, but that isn't all that matters. There are some really high marks received for things such as the food (don't plan on losing weight during this hunt), the work ethic and kind hearts that the guides have. The only negative impressions left on me was due to the uncertainty of every aspect. But as the week went on, I think more and more, that when it comes to caribou hunting and weather in the North, there is no certainty. It seemed that everything was continuously changing and we never new the reasons why. When I say continuously changing, I mean on a 5 minute basis. But again, we were told over and over again that the caribou is a strange animal and much that they do is unexplainable.Day 1: Our group of 6 hunters flew into Camp #4 after having some changes in which groups were going which camps.Day 2: Took the boats out and did some hiking and glassing with no sightings.Day 3: Half of our group made a move to find 3 average bulls while the remainder stayed at camp finding one B&C black bear and 2 average bulls.Day 4: The other half of our group was moved to a different camp (Arbic) where caribou WERE earlier. We hiked 13 or so miles seeing a few cows and calves and my harvest of a nice black bear. In the meantime, the half that stayed at our original camp saw thousands of animals right behind camp harvesting 2 really nice bulls.Day 5: The half at Arbic hiked another 12 or so miles seeing just a few cows and calves.Day 6: We moved back to Camp #4 getting back with our group, but wasting 2/3 of the day in the process. With some hussle and hard work, we filled our tags with a couple good bulls at the tail end of the herd that moved through in the last minutes. We did also take a 3rd black bear on this day.Day 7: Back to Montreal.

Outfitter Review: Jack Hume Adventures - Quebec

Outfitter / Owner: Richard Hume

Hunter: Bob Mosier

Animals Hunted: Caribou

This is a detailed account of my hunt with Jack Hume Adventures. I can say that it was a trip of a lifetime and there were very many good things that happened. It was not a guaranteed hunt, nor would I want one, but all did not go as expected either. Shortly after booking and getting a contract I was contacted by Richard or Amanda Hume that they were trying to compress their schedule and would I be willing to change dates. I had no issue with this and they threw in a bear license, fishing licenses, and knocked a couple hundred dollars off what I owed. A week before the trip I contacted them asking if they had located caribou and they named 2 camps that had caribou.Upon arriving in Montreal we met the other hunters in our group and had our orientation. We were being sent to Camp Amanda which was not one of the 2 camps mentioned the week before, but it was supposed to be the best camp of 2008. Upon arriving in Schefferville I met Richard who said there was a huge herd of caribou about 15 miles from camp and they could be there anytime. No issues on the flights and we met our guide and cook when we got to camp. Our guide and cook were both wonderful. For the first 4 days of camp no one saw a caribou. My son and I saw a wolf on day 2. On day 5 I saw a cow and calf and my brother saw a small bull which ran past the other father/son combo at a distance. My son and the last hunter still had not seen a caribou. That night they said that they were going to move us to another camp if the caribou did not arrive the next day, however we would only be allowed to shoot one caribou, which is something I had not noticed when reading brochures or websites and will touch on later. On day 6 at 10:00AM Richard contacted the guide to see if the caribou had moved in which they had not. They said they were in the process of setting up the other camp and that we would be moved the next day. That day my son filled our bear license for the first kill of the camp. We also saw one calf that day. (my brother, my son and I, no one else saw anything)Early on day 7 they informed us they would pick us up at 2:00PM. However, by noon there was 50 mph winds and they said they could not fly. The day before had been beautiful and we could have hunted while they set up camp had anyone bothered to check a weather report, or maybe this was how they planned it. My son and I saw a cow and calf that day.On day 8 the wind had subsided some, but they said they could not fly due to snow in Schefferville. At this point I told my son that the next day when the hunt was over, they would find a way to pick us up under similar weather conditions. At 8:30 that morning the other son I mentioned previously killed a respectable bull and by evening had limited out with a cow and his dad got a cow. My brother shot a cow that day, and my son and I saw nothing. When news of the bull got radioed back to headquarters our move was history. On day 9 which was our day to pull out we were hunting by 5AM. My brother got his second cow, and my son and I got one each. Just before quitting time the other father got a bull similar to his son's. Even the guide said no one comes up to shoot a cow, you can get one of them in a pasture for way less than $5500. My son and I and the one other hunter had not even seen a bull and he did not even have the chance to pull a trigger on a cow. Upon arriving back in Schefferville Richard went directly to the other father and son and told them he was glad it worked out for them. He told the rest of us to go up and register our caribou and when the one hunter said he had none, Richard took him aside. He later told me that he was told they would "work with him" if he rebooked. We did fill out surveys which I did not give him good marks due to never getting moved, but as of yet have never heard back. I learned on the way back to Montreal that 2 camps had caribou, with one camp killing 9 bulls and a cow for 5 guys. 2 camps also got moved with each hunter killing the one allowed bull. The other camp had kills, but I never heard how many. Upon arriving back at Montreal I was astonished at how few nice horns there were. Many were far less nice than the ones my brother and I took at Kiskamaastakin (a first rate outfitter)on our winter hunt and some hunters even kept cow horns. Now I would like to touch on the 10 reasons listed to book a hunt with Jack Hume Adventures.1. Experience: in our case it was the guiding and the cooking that showed experience!2. High ratio of spare camps: meaningless if they have no caribou. The camp they moved people to and promised us was in Labrador and not even one of Hume's own camps.3. Access to both herds: Not in our case, the Leaf River Herd was too far north yet to help out.4. Customer satisfaction: I have read some great reviews on this site and believe that when the caribou are plentiful at Hume's camps things run much smoother, but in our case he never followed through and moved us as he says he would.5. Mobility, Richard Hume has his own plane and is a pilot: The cook told us that he is not licensed to haul passengers, only cargo. I told her to pack me in a box and have him take me to the caribou! Also, no mention here of only shooting one animal if they have to move you.6. Success over 90%: Even counting cows which is not what we were after we were at 75% and less than 20% on bulls. The people that got moved were at 50%. With these numbers, it would seem difficult to pull out 90+% this year.7. Owner operated: No argument on this one.8. Safety Cessna available for emergencies: Perhaps Richard is allowed to haul passengers in an emergency?9. Fair chase hunts: Again no argument, it may have been more fair for the caribou than for us!10. Competitive Price: As long as you get what you paid for!

This outfitter did everything they said they would and more.We had nine hunters in our group and we harvested 18 GOOD bulls.(14 bulls are getting mounted, some of the guys are having both of their animals done)Our hunt dates were Oct.11-18th. By going so late in the year the weather caught up with us and the camps. A couple of mornings everything froze up including the camp generators so we had no water or electricity for lights. The camp managers finally got this problem sorted out so we at least had lights in our hooches and hot coffee in the morning. No one really minded this as the bottom line was, we were there to hunt not to camp. We really just had a blast, cold weather and all. I was lucky enough to take a trophy of a lifetime by harvesting a monster non-typical bull. My pictures of my bull were destroyed in my camera but I got ahold of Berni and Martin at Safari Nordik and they got ahold of my guide and got his pictures that he took with his camera and sent them to me. As far as I'am concerened that is REALLY taking care of your clients. Feel free to contact me anytime about this outfitter

Early season hunt so I was suprised at quantitie of animals. There was a constant flow of small herds and easily filled our tags.Fishing (specs, Char, Lakers)was outstanding.Food and accomodations were well above average. Plenty of room in our heated cabin, oil heat, electric lights, hot shower if required.Meals were varied and they accomodate personal taste if possible(Char Sushi,Caribou Filet wrapped in bacon, large breakfasts).Staff made the trip, seemed like we were hunting with buddies who just happened to like packing meat and washing dishes.Overall would highly recommend High North and will make a retun trip

Outfitter / Owner: Ben Corriveau

Drove up to LG4 from Pennsylvania with my wife and son. About 30 hours if you stop for breakfast and dinner. Last 180 miles is very good gravel road, well maintained. Averaged 50mph on the gravel road. LG4 has accomodations for both sleeping and eating. Meal cost was $22.50 for dinner. Seems high but don't forget, this food has to be either driven or flown into camp quite some distance. Lodging was motel style (your sleeping bag). Flew out the next morning, ontime. Hunted the first afternoon. Did see some caribou but waited until the next morning to do any shooting. Made all meals ourselves in camp. Took up alot of dried stews (Mrs Grass), spagetti w/ dried sauce mix, fresh vegetables, dried milk, cereal, oatmeal, drink mixes, some bottled water and snacks for in the field. Bread, peanut butter and jelly were the mainstay of our lunches.Hunting was very good and we did see alot of caribou + a very large black bear which no one had a license for. We averaged seeing about 25-50 animals a day until the second last evening and the last day when a major migration came thru. We saw thousands of animals then. The hills were covered. My wife took 2 bulls, my son took 2 very nice bulls and I took a very, very good bull and a cow...whoops. We shot an average of 1-2 caribou a day.The terrain is mostly sparse pine trees on rolling hills. Alot of water! I've been caribou hunting with other outfitters six times previously but by far, this is the best value I've come across. Ken Taylor was our camp manager. He has written numberous articles for outdoor magazines and is a traditional longbow fanatic. Ben runs a truely fantastic operation up there at LG4. I'm planning on going back with my family again in a few years. Super people!!Cargair will be at the Eastern Sport Show in Harrisburg, stop in and see him.

I went with 3 friends to Quebec for spring black bear with Ungava Adventures. This was my second black bear hunt and although the bear I shot in BC was larger, this was a more enjoyable experience. Bucky and Tom our guides were knowledgible, experienced, and a lot of fun to hunt with. Most of us saw at least one bear at each stand we used. We all tagged out within 4 days. The food was excellent and the cabins were comfortable. I would book this hunt again.

The overall hunt went over smoothly from our drive and stay in Montreal to leaving with a large quantity of meat that was well prepared and looked after. We lucked out on the migration and weather. Northern lights charmed us at night and shore lunches kept us full during the day. I actually had a sleep on a sand beach with socks off, pants rolled up and shirt off.The first few days had us surrounded by caribou on the move and the rest of the week was spent hunting and glassing for large bulls. During the day we fished and caught Lake Trout ( over 40lbs ), Artic Char and Speckled Trout. We took lots of film and video and enjoyed some of our hunts in camp in the evenings with a camp TV.Can't say enough good things about our hunt.

I have never been to a camp where every single one of the staff was a complement to the sport of hunting and where they all went out of their way to make you feel at home. Further more my guide was relentless in finding the best animals. The food was better than should be allowed in a hunting camp. Every night I ate more than my fill of excellent food. All of the cabins had sufficient room for four grown men and enough space to dry out our gear each night. The camp is positioned perfectly to watch the Northern Lights dance for GOD over the lake. I would highly recommend High North Outfitters for anyone going caribou hunting.

Given the remote location of the hunt the camp was rustic but more than comfortable. The food was plentiful and appetizing but not fancy. The fishing was unreal. Caribou were overabundant initially then we had to hunt the last part of the week...the best of all worlds. The prearranged air transport was smooth, efficient and went without a hitch. There were some seasoned guides(like mine) and some learning(as for others in our group). We were able to 'pitch in' and help with the 'chores'. This made us feel more a part of the hunt because we are use to doing for ourselves. Hot shower was available. Evening chats and videos from the day made for very pleasant camp time. Sleep cabins were warm, dry and roomy. Clothes dried quickly with the oil heat. Generator provided light until bedtime. The outfitters recommendations withrespect to fishing equipment and firearms selection is worth listening to.

As we made our flight to camp and did a fly over we seen hundreds af caribou. We were unloaded and hunting within 45 minutes with a constant flow of caribou passing by. The snow makes the difference to the hunting..One guy we took with us always went In Oct...he's been there for 6 years..he went with us in late Nov..to the same camp and he just couldn't believe it..For pictures of this hunt go to huntingchat.net look in the deer section of the forum..there are 3-4 post started on this..One of the best post is entitled.."Hard to describe in words'

This is the poorest guided hunt I have ever been on. First, the hunts were overbooked. There were way too many hunters in the camps, and the hunting in too many of the camps was extremely poor. Second, many times there were too many hunters assigned per guide. We paid for a three-on-one hunt. The first three days there were six hunters per guide. Third, the two hunters I went with were sent to another camp after two days. I didn't get to go with them because I had harvested a "mature" bull. They went to a camp with more caribou. It was overcrowded! Fourth, we were lied to. Our luggage, which had our ammunition and warms clothes, did not arrive on time for the flight to Kuujjuaq. The representative in Montreal assured us that as soon as it got to Kuujjuaq, it would be flown to our camp. It sat in Kuujjuaq for a day and half before being sent to our camp. We were deprived of two full days of hunting. Finally, our camp manager and head guide was obviously frustrated by the number of "new" hunters arriving at his camp. The reason for this frustration was that he knew it was merely a staging area; there were few to no caribou there! There were many problems with communications before our hunt. The organizational skills of this outfitter need a lot of work. In conclusion, there are many more minor reasons why this trip was a bust. I will never again ever consider using this outfitter!!!

Outfitter runs to many hunters through camps. You lose a day of hunting by being moved to bring in other hunters. They average 150 hunters per week. The number of caribou my group saw was very low. They guarantee two trophy bulls. Found out they call a trophy bull as any bull that is of breeding age. Rack does not matter. They claim to have 32 camps but they keep moving hunters to bring in more hunters. They moved us after 2 days to a better camp, when we arrived at the new camp the hunters there were waiting to get on the plane when we arrived. those hunters told us good luck because they did not see anything to shoot.

Our experience was very similar to the others on this website. This outfitter makes false promises and does not take care of business. We spent many hours waiting for float planes that were not even coming(not the fault of the plane company). After standing in the wind and rain for hours, no coffee, apology or actual acknowledgement was offered from the outfitter. Even the people that work for him do not like him. This is a dangerous trip for anyone with any type of medical condition, the satelite phone did not work. On the day of our departure, he would not send a float plane because his trophy hunters hadn't arrived and he refused to send an empty plane one way. The ripple effect of missing our booked hotel rooms and flights (there were 30 men from canada and the US)was frustrating and enraging. And when confronted, Jean-Pierre couldn't have care less. Any extra expenses incurred by the outfitters error was not rembursed, or even apologized for. If you are considering this hunt for yourself, PLEASE RECONSIDER! Overall I had a good experience. I tagged out after 5 days. The cook was very rude and refused to cook after we tipped him. He didnt like our tip and told us he expected 2 to 3 times the amount. The head guide told us we gave him a fair tip. He is greedy, also sold trinkets in the kitchen. We had to raid the kitchen in order to get something to eat. We told the outfitter about this when we got back and he didnt seemed to concerned. After we got back we didnt see or hear from the outfitter, even though he flew back with us. Seemed to care less if we enjoyed ourselves or not. The staff were also very rough with our racks and baggage. Thrown off the backs of trucks. rude to hunters. I will hunt Caribou again but not with this outfitter. For the money I spent and the size of our group I would expect a little better treatment.

Great trip. We arrived Saturday afternoon and had a couple hours to hunt. The big push of bou had gone through the prior two days with tens of thousands and the ground looked like it. Many were still around including some very nice bulls. Flying in we saw animals all over, but mostly in the water swimming the many lakes from point to point. Unreal. We knew we hit it well. We had one gun hunter and 7 bowhunters on the plane. Hat would be it for Sun and Mon and on Tue more hunters would start and some that were there when we arrived would fly out. The five guys in camp had obviously tagged out. I think all 10 animals were taken the day the big push first showed up. They were gun hunters. We hunted Saturday for about 4 hours and killed two. A few we missed and many many were passed up. Including some very nice bulls, but not monsters. All felt they were here to stay for awhile. So at the end of sat, which was not even really a hunting day for our booking, we had 2 of 14 down, but again, we could have tagged out with nice bulls that afternoon if wanted. Sunday 6 bulls were taken and again, many more were passed. Nice animals were all around. Hundreds and hundreds adding to thousands. 95% cow/calf/ young bulls, but the odd nice bull mixed in to each group and there were a lot of groups. A bear was spotted on a carcass. End of Sunday 8 tags filled with 6 to go. I had not shot, but passed many including 3 from 5-6pm in separate pass bys at the end of a pond. All three were better than the best one I would end up taking. It was, however, clear, that by mid afternoon Sunday there were fewer animals around. Monday AM the masses were gone. Glassing revealed little of what had been there the prior two days. I saw two decent bulls and shot one at 7:45. He had another one with him that was bigger, but lagging behind. I almost took him 30 seconds after taking #1, but passed at 39 yards when he spooked as a result of #1 getting shot. The rest of the day it was fewer groups passing by, but still the occasional decent bull. At the end of Monday only three tags were left. Three of us held one each. The bear seen previously was alos taken, but not with a bow. It was about 250#. Tuesday the three tag holders went to the same crossing. All day we saw 142 animals. 5 decent bulls. One was taken. Others either passed or winded us. 12 or 14 bow tags now filled through three full days. Wed AM we saw 60 animals back at the pass, down from 142 the prior day. We did kill two bulls by 11am. It was slower. I filled last on a smaller bull that made us 14 for 14 and presented a clean shot that allowed us to tag out. We actually shot it while dressing one shot 20 minutes before. We waited at the lake 4 hours for a pick up with the two bulls and did see 3 more bulls that were better than what I took. Wed PM and Thursday we fished and killed the lakers with 3-4 people per boat and seldom not having doubles, often triples, and sometime 4 fish on simultaneously. We did it in shifts to allow others to share the fun and to give the guys a break from reeling in the 4-8 pound plus fish hand over fist. This week really proved to me just how fickle the timing can be on these hunts. The first half of the week before ours was slow………..the last half of ours was slow, but the two halves in between were all anyone could ask for. THIS IS A FIRST CLASS WORLD CLASS HUNTING OPERATION RUN BY HARD WORKING HONEST PEOPLE

Hunt dates Aug. 23-29 2007. This outfitter provided excellent service and took great care in controlling the things that could be controlled. We purchased an "Out Post" hunt with 1 guide to 6 hunters, so we expected a largely do it yourself hunt. We were truly impressed by the outstanding effort put forth by our guide to assist all hunters in having a successful hunt. Each of the six hunters took two bulls. This hunt was a major investment for my friends and I and we consider it money well spent.

I would preface this first by saying although we hit the migration in full swing, the camp staff was working hard for us before the caribou arrived. I would recommend them for a caribou hunt but understand it is a hunt and the animals might not show up. The bunk houses were good, the food was excellent. The boats were good but with the wind up there, they could be limited in where they take you. Fishing at the camp I was in, Min, was not quite what I expected but I was there to hunt so that's not a big deal. My only complaint as a first time outfitter user was in Montreal and when we first got into camp, things were a bit disorganized. I would have liked to have seen a briefing at the motel and once we got to camp. Other than that, everything was excellent!

Hunted Aug 29 thru Sept 4 The migration was late starting, but due to the location of Camp Min we harvested very good bulls. Only one hunter didn't kill a caribou. I was very satisfied with the whole operation. All personel were top notch people and we all had a great time. This was the rare hunt when all 11 hunters were strangers when we arrived but after a couple of hours we all became good friends. Of all the hunts I have been on this was by far the best. I highly recommend Tuttulik to anyone looking to hunt Caribou.

We arrived a day early in Montreal to get everything settled and ask questions about the hunt but Jean-Pierre was no were to be found. The next morning we had to rush to get all our lugged loaded on the scale because he had told us 5:30 but I guess we were supposed to be there at 5:00. We had been told we could get our fishing licenses at the base camp but when we got there he did not have any licenses for us so we could not fish. Finally after waiting around a couple of hours at the base camp with no one telling us what was going on or when we were going to leave they finally got us on a float plane. Finally we arrived at the camp. We had seven people and told we would have two cabins well one cabin the heater did not work and the other cabin the stove did not work. Then towards the end of the week neither cabins heater worked so we did not have any heat and that is really fun when all your clothes are soaking wet. We were promised 1 boat and motor for every three people so we should have had 3 boats and motors but there was 1 boat and motor that worked and 1 boat and motor that worked half the time and to top it off one guy had to be bailing water out of the boats just to stop the water from coming over your boots. We were told they would have formaldehyde to preserve our horns but the camp keeper did not even know what that was or what we could do to save the velvet. The cabins leaked very badly when it rained. Even the pilot was upset when he showed up because there was no dock in the water to unload the luggage so one guy had to be standing in the water. There was garbage laying all over the camp and looked like a big garbage dump.Even with the poor service we managed to make a good hunt out of it we went 14 for 14 on caribou but we had to walk an average of 10 to 15 miles a day to find the animals. We are all experienced hunters and we were not against a little hard work. On the last day we were told to be by the lake by 9:00 am to wait for the plane it got to be about 1:00pm and the plane still did not arrive so we asked the camp keeper to call on the satellite phone and find out were he was he told us the satellite phone did not work. We waited there until 5:00pm and the plane never showed up. So we went back to the cabin to stay another night, when we packed up in the morning we had taken all our left over food and put it on the table figuring the next group would use it or the camp keeper would take, well the camp keeper took it so we asked for some of the food back so we could eat supper. Finally the next day the plane arrived at 10:00am and we got back to base but we still had to wait around for another 6 hours before they finally flew us back to Montréal a day late. When we got back to Montréal Jean-Pierre asked if we had a problem with camp keeper and why we did not tip him. We told him the only thing the camp keeper did was limit the amount of fuel that was put in generator the whole so why would we tip him (that would be like tipping the cashier at the gas station). The thing that amazed me was how the satellite phone worked at the camp when the camp keeper wanted to bitch about not getting a tip. Finally we got home and my friend’s wife the e-mail below from Jean-Pierre: (MicheleYour husband and his friends are one of the worst bunch of cheap assholes we saw in many years. For more information, do not hesitate to ask !CanadAventure's team)So I responded with a some what cordial e-mail explaining the problems and this was the only response he could come up with:(When you take a poor man's food without giving him a penny, you are aCHEAP ASSHOLE. Its may be not your fault, but you will be like that forthe rest of your life.)The hunt itself was good because we were willing to work at it and make the best out of it but as you can see I would most definitely stay away from this outfitter he makes a lot of phony promises and even after you spend $25,000 on a hunt for seven guys he still calls you a cheap asshole.

We took 6 hunters on this hunt. We went in Late November 2006 on the winter hunt. On the day we drove in we seen tons of caribou and several very large bulls in the unit to the West of camp's unit. The migration was moving through. We arrived at the camp and seen a lot of successful hunters with a lot of very nice bulls. We bought our tags and decided to hunt that afternoon to get familar with the area. This hunt is more or less they give a report each evening of where other hunters are killing and then you are on your own. You can pay extra for snowmobiles and helicopter with guides if you like. We did not see any caribou the first day. The camp probably had around 60-90 other hunters there and not too many others were seeing anything. The reports at the night meeting said the caribou migration had passed us south and the ones north were still north of the large reservoir. The following day we found a small group of them and killed two horned cows. We meet a couple other hunters that had killed a couple of nice bulls. The same was found when we got back to camp. The caribou were still not crossing the reservoir and the guys that were getting the animals were in very small groups of 5-10 caribou. The weather turned very cold and heavy snow the following night. The next day we found a spot that had around 30-40 caribou and all but one limited out on small horned cows. One guy got a very nice bull and a couple of our meat hunters took some large bulls with no horns. The migration still was not crossing the reservoir and the only guys killing with still only killing in small groups. The following day the last guy to limit out got a decent cow. Later that afternoon the migration started to cross the reservoir and more people started to kill. There were several nice bulls killed that evening. A bad storm was coming and we started out that night. One the way out we ran into a large amount of the migration. All and all, we limited out and the animals were not there unfortunately when we were hunting, they came just before we arrived and just as we were leaving. I am planning to return November 2008 and give a second try. I thought for being a fair chase hunt it was very fair and if we were after huge bulls we would had done a fly-in hunt. I would recommended this hunt to people that are willing to get off the road and hunt in woods in deep snow. Watch the migration routes on the internet and see where the animals are. This will give you a good idea of when to schedule your hunt too. The game commission has 30 collared animals that they track the migrations with and it is on their website.

We saw very few Caribou. A total of 12 in 5 days. We ended up with 3 small bulls and 6 cows for 8 hunters. Owner made promises when booking that did not live up to hype. He promised to move us if there were no Caribou, that didn't happen. We later found out he was a small operation that didn't own his owns planes. This meant he flew us to the closest camp because it cost him the fewest dollars. Obviously he didn't have the capitol to move us. The guides were well seasoned and friendly, however they were at the mercy of where the owner put them. The cook was very good. We never went hungry. We were told it was a seven day hunt, however we only hunted five days. The flight out of Montreal was delayed so we had to spend the night in Schefferville. The owner did put us up in a house he owned in town, but we were responsible for our own food. We were also told that the fishing was world class. We were told to bring our old tackle because these fish bite anything. We caught 5 fish in 5 days between all 8 of us. All these fish were caught off the dock. Several hours were spent fishing in the boat with no fish at all. I would recommend chosing a reputable guide service with their planes.

Animals Hunted: white -tailed deer

I've been to Anticosti for about 10 straight years..I've pretty much seen it all up there..5-6 years ago you would litterally see tons of deer per day..They had a tremendous winter kill 3-4 years ago which really hurt the deer herd. It's on the rebound, each year seeing more an more deer. It's not like what it was, but it's getting there quickly..We had 8 hunters in our group..we killed 14 bucks and 2 doe..we actually should have killed all bucks, but a couple guys went crazy with the trigger the first morning not knowing what to expect. The first five years i went to Anticosti was in the Oct. hunt...seems like you see more deer in Oct. but not big bucks..the last 5 years was in late Nov. we see big bucks..there in full rut and move all day..The island is like out of some dream movie, just mystical, remote, quiet, and peaceful..You don't have to be some pro hunter to go up there an kill deer...you'll get your 2. Your allowed 2 deer...buck or doe..I have found the more years you go to Anticosti the easier it is..the island is very thick, and the first time hunting can be frustrating, after the first year or 2 you'll figure out things, and the guides will take you to your favorite spots..If i didn't know a thing about Anticosti and was looking into going, i would go in late nov..they offer some cheaper packages in sept and oct...but it's worth the money to hunt in snow..

This was my 3rd time hunting caribou and by far the best camp I have been at. The camp (Camp Minto), staff were very friendly and worked very hard to provide everyone a great hunt. The hunters ranged in age from the mid 30's to the late 70's. The meals were great (no losing weight on this trip). The kitchen and bunkhouses were new and very clean. We saw on average over 200 caribou a day (with in easy shooting range) and we hunted 4 hours a day. If you count the caribou we saw in the far distance, the numbers would climb to 500+ a day. The groups size ran from 4 to over 100. I can remember only a handful of cows and calfs. Were in the other camps I has lucky to have seen a total of 200 caribou in 6 days of hunting (from sunrise to sunset) and mostly cows and calfs. We had caribou walking right thru camp almost every day. The entire camp filled their tags by the 3rd day. With the largest scoring out at over 430 B.C. points. We also had great fishing for lake trout and 3 of the group had very good sucess in hunting ptarmigan. We were also guess to the best northern lights display we had very seen (4 nights in a row). I cannot wait to save up enough money to return to this great place in northern Quebec and hunt the roaming herds of caribou.

Lots of P&Y bulls, and several B&C.My hunting partner and myself tagged out on the third day.Everything about this hunt was perfect, from the pre-hunt information, through meat and trophy care. There were none of the nightmare stories that seem so common with other Quebec outfitters. In my opinion, this is THE outfitter to hunt Q/L caribou with.

Went on a 5-day caribou hunt late sept to early oct. Everthing went perfect.Drove to Montreal then took a plane 2 hours to the main lodge then took another plane 2 hours to the camp. Went with 2 friends and saw about 50 caribou the first 2 days and we all limited out with nice caribou. It was a good thing because other hunters in our camp were having trouble finding them after that. Some took fly outs and had success, but it cost extra for fly outs unless you go on the trophy hunt 2 fly outs are included. We heard that other camps were seeing hundreds of Caribou so it all depends on which camp you are at which is all part of hunting. Everyone that was there before us limited out also. I would reccomend this outfitter to anyone. Everthing they said they would do they did and everything was first class. Thanx Ben.

Our party hunted the first week of September. We arrived at our first camp after some logistical challenges. The weather was very warm, but the outgoing group hit the migration!! Unfortunately, it had passed by the time we arrived. There were few caribou seen and of those shot they were cows. As the days passed the caribou all but disappeared. We finally were relocated and had to make it happen that afternoon because we were scheduled to depart the following morning. That afternoon was a big success!! and our hunt was somewhat saved. Still, there were several hunters that did not harvest 2 caribou. To sum up the experience.....be patient!! You are on "Tundra Time" and a lot is out of your control. You live and die by the willingness of the outfitter to relocate you to where the migration is!!!!!! Club Chambeaux will do that, but in our case with little time to capitalize.

I trust my life with them and there are consumate professionals. Their guides (Dwayne, Tom Randall, Nathan, and Camille) are ccut out of the same cloth....Honest and hardworking. They can't guarantee you game. That is out of their control. But I have watched the various hunting shows on caribou and i believe my 2 bulls were better than any I have seen on TV at other outfits. And my bulls werent the biggest at our camp of 8 guys. I'm not a trophy hunter but am very pleased at what I got with them. Food was excellent. Go during fishing season. Bring a shotgun to hunt Ptarmigan also. Out of four bear trips I killed two really nice bears. I alwasy thought they gave me plenty of opportunity to shoot a good bear. the last one I shot weighed 305 lbs and squared 6'. And that was the true weight not the purported weight. Bucky weighs them with you there! There are some shady outfitters out there. You don't get 400 hunters a year if youre shady. I wholeheartedly recommend Sammy and Bucky.

trailing effort on the 2 bulls my partner bowshot were botched (one was pushed prematurely) or (on the second one) non-existent. On the second one the guide abandoned 3 of us miles from the boat & never took a step to trail the bull. Also, we spent over 1/2 our hunt sitting on deserted river crossings while the bulls were traveling around the water up on the ridges. One day the tagged out rifle hunters videoed bulls while we were stuck on the river. There were other more minor occurances, but these were the worst. We went to camp 26 and Sonny was our guide. My dad and I each got 2 trophy caribou along with everyone at the camp. Around 75% of the caribou that were taken were double shovels.Once we went in the boat scanning an island and the boat stalled and never started again. So we paddled to the shore. After waiting an hour Sonny came by with his boat.We put our orange vests on the end of the oar and tried to flag him down but he didn't stop. My dad grabed his gun, loaded a round and went to fire, but he finnaly saw us. So the boats weren't good quality.I got both of my caribous with my bow and my dad got his with a rifle. I wish the hunting had been a little more fair chase though. After we had gotten both of our caribou we went fishing. We went to some of the islands behind the camp and 4 caribou came off an island and into the water. We turned the boat around and went up to the caribou. We got on the radio and told all the folks back at camp to get their cameras out. We pushed the caribou in front of the camp. We also caught 2 fish. The experience at camp was great but there is a different story in Montreal and Sheferville. We were told that we would be leaving that day but when we got to Sheferville they said that we were going to spend a night there. On the way back our flight from Shefferville back to Montreal was supose to get there at 7 but it got there at 11. They told us that Giles was going to meet us in Montreal but he didn't. So when we got to the Holiday Inn at 12:45am we called Giles and asked him where he was and this is what he said,"I got to get some sleep sometime." That made us mad so we hung up the phone and went to bed. We got up the next morning and put our meat and giant racks in our trailer and left for Maine. So over all it wasn't really bad, but it could have been better. We definatly lucked out with our huge trophy caribou. I hope to try to enter mine in the Pope & Young books. Sonny, our guide, made our hunt much better. All 4 of our caribou will be mounted.

Hunt dates: Sept. 18-24, 2005Safari Nordik performed above and beyond our expectations. Planning a caribou hunt such as this takes quite a lot of effort on the part of the customer and the outfitter and can be stressful to say the least. Safari Nordik personnel did everything in their power to ensure we had a safe and worry free experience. Our camp was comfortable and the food was excellent and plentiful. Everything promised to us was delivered and more. We had each harvested one bull early in the week, but only a few caribou came by our camp each day. Even though we had already harvested our guaranteed bulls, Safari Nordik moved us to another camp at the end of the week where there were thousands of animals. Aside from harvesting our second bull each, we were able to experience the phenomenon of the migration which was truly amazing. We greatly appreciated the effort put forth and after returning from the hunt are in awe of the outfitter’s ability to organize chaos with so many hunters coming and going each day, to keep track of where the animals are, and to ensure everyone was happy. This is a hunt we would repeat with this outfitter and commend all of the staff for their hard work both in front of and behind the scenes. Just returned from a very memorable hunt. These guys did a great job. No glitches with anything. Very comfortable accomodations and great service all around. I was more than impressed by how well managed and organized this operation was. Everything was on time and no problems with meat, horns, capes,or travel. The camp was the most well kept camp I have seen in 25 years. These people work hard and take care of their hunters. There were 13 hunters in our camp and we took 26 bulls that were well above the norm that I have seen come out of Quebec. Really nice animals. This is just the right sized operation to provide the kind of service most hunters are looking for. I recommend them highly and will difinitely book with them again.

This was my second year in a row with this outfitter. Last year he screwed 20 out of 24 hunters in our group. He apologized for the problems and lying about moving us, and invited me back at half price. He lied again and shafted me and the other seven hunters in my camp. He promised he'd come back and take me out if I stayed another day, and he lied again. If I hadn't chartered a float plane (thanfully I brought a satellite phone) I might still be there and would have missed a conference that was mandatory to attend back in Colorado.Stay away at all costs, go to Jack Hume or Club Chambeaux, two companies that have many resources to handle contingencies.

Hunted with Jack Hume in Sept 2004. The main camp staff were very accomodating for my wife who was in camp as well as a non-hunter. The head guide and one other were both great to hunt with and dedicated and committed to providing a quality experience for their hunters. My guide however was poorly equipped, unmotivated, failed to show up two days with binoculars, abused camp equipment, had poor field dressing skills, used excessive profanity and generally was not interested in providing me a good hunting experience. Late in the week the head guide hunted with me but by then the week was very disappointing as a hunt. The overall vacation experience of traveling to that remote region of Canada was great though. Spectacular scenery!!

Yves delivered everything promised.Very honest and straight forward. Accomidations were as good as can be expected for a caribou hunt out of scheffersville. Dry cabins with wood burning stoves for heat. Generator for power Guides worked hard hauling out and taking care of game. Set up more for gun hunters than bow hunters. Food was very good. We had a slow, but steady flow of caribou including a chance at several big bulls each day with bow. Fishing was good also. Stayed on Lake Pixie. Would re-book with them again in the future.

Outfitter / Owner: Sepaq

Hunter: T. West

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

Hello: After reading about SEPAQ Anticosti for many years I decided to finally go. I hunted third week of October 2004 season. The operation is run by the Quebec govt. and they have it down pretty good. What they failed to mention in the brochures is that two years ago there was a massive winter die off and the herd is still recovering. They admit to losing 40,000 deer. I hunted the LAC Martin sector and there were 8 hunters total in our cabin. Four hunters from Canada and four hunters from the U.S. A great time was had by all and we enjoyed some wonderful comraderie. The hunting was weak, to say the least. I saw 18 deer in four days and all except one were does. The buck was young and I elected to pass. I took a meat doe and passed on the rest. The four American hunters score was as follows: one decent eight pointer and six does. The Canadian gentleman took one small buck and four does. We hunted very hard and covered a lot of territory but the bigger bucks were not to be found. We heard later that the kill all over the Island has been down since this last winter kill of two years ago. We were told by the locals that last year was much worse. The hunting is basically conducted by walking trails (and you have no choice but to walk the trails because the woods are so thick you cannot move or see more than a few yards)until you come to the swamps that are spread around the Lac Martin sector. The swamps are where most of our groups action happened. In the Lac Martin sector there are perhaps a dozen stands scattered around and I am told that most of the sectors on the island have no stands. The trails do have deer near them but it is extremely hard to stalk on these trails because of mud, gravel, and noise. If you hunt hard and cover some area you will see deer, but you are not going to see the heards you hear about. In November the deer actually migrate to the shore areas to eat kelp that washes up on the beaches and then you will see the huge herds you read about. If you hunt Anticosti make sure you know how to use a map and compass and a GPS. You must get off the trails to really have a sucessful hunt and some of the swamps are huge and very easy to get turned around in. There are a few other things to make your trip to the Island a little more enjoyable and if anyone out there is going to the Island for their first trip I will be happy to share them. My email is listed at the end here. It is still a unique hunt in a special place and the hunting should pick up in the next two seasons. If you go, good luck!

After hunting with several outfitters I have finally found the place I will return to on a regular basis. Tuttulik is based on the west side of Quebec near Hudson Bay on Lake Minto, the headwaters of the Leaf River. Our camp on the south side of the lake was a great place for bowhunters; open enough to glass long distances yet enough cover to get in position for a close shot. The first 3 days were relatively slow but hunters were still having opportunities. The last 2 days it really picked up and the group limited out. Great accomodations and a super cook. This is an unguided hunt with 2 campmen to assist you, so expect to be on your own most of the time.

I hunted from 8-29-04 to 9-04-04. The weather was warm in the beginning of the week which kept the caribou sightings down. I tagged out on two nice bulls, ending my hunt on the afternoon of the second full day. Everyone in camp took two bulls. The staff at my camp, named Tasiataq, was excellent. The food was very good and the cook was disappointed if you didn't take seconds or if you skipped dessert because you were too full. This outfitter is very organized and if they told us they were going to do something it was done, no B.S. Another group which started the same day I did went into a camp that didn't have any caribou around it. They were moved after two days to a different camp that had hundreds of animals around it. They all got there two caribou and they all seemed pleased when we got back to Montreal. We all got bulls, not cows. This is an excellent outfitter and I will be going back in a few years.

I have hunted with Ben four times now; three for bear and once for caribou. Without exception, I would say Ben and his staff go out of their way to insure a good time and a successful hunt for everyone. I have always had shots at decent bears up there, hunting with traditional archery tackle. (although the bear are not as large as here in NC; up there a 225 lb bear is a pretty good one). The food has always been great, the lodge clean and comfortable. Most of us who go each year with our group are traditional archers, and usually only one or two come back without bear, and even they have shot opportunities. Fishing was pretty good too, if you have time to do it.

I have hunted in many areas for deer and anticosti is second to none. Very remote, it seems like your the only one hunting on the island. The guides are not right in your face telling you how to hunt. They let you do your thing, however, they are helpful in putting you in areas where there are deer. Its your job to find the deer. I have hunted on the island for five years now, and it seems to keep getting better. I live in Maine, and have hunted Pennsylvania for over 10 years. I am just tired of trying to find a place to hunt in Pa. Too many posted signs. If your looking for a real hunt, a do it yourself hunt, try Anticosti. Its Paradise.

Outfitter / Owner: Serge Tessier

Hunter: Jed Topham

Animals Hunted: Caribou

After a long awaited hunt with my father in the end of August- first of Sept. 2003, I have never been so disappointed. The Caribou had already migrated south weeks before. Serge (outfitter) knew this, yet failed to notify any of us or give us a chance to re-book. What few animals we did see were on the other side of the sacred river on Inuit land where we could not hunt. Serge himself did nothing for us as far as hunting went. He drove around in his truck on the few roads in the area. Every time he talked with one of the way overbooked hunting groups he would swear up and down that there were plenty of animals in the area, and that we simply had to look harder. I tell you my friend, day after day of sitting on you butt looking at nothing for 8 hours gets real old real fast. Hunting ended every day promptly at 4:30 pm where you had to be back at the road to be picked up by the bus. One evening I had an average bull spotted across the river after seeing next to nothing all day. I spotted the animal at 4:30 pm and hoped to see him swim the river, but I was immediately told by our guide that hunting was over for the day and that I was to immediately go back to the road. In other words, you sit in camp and waste 2-3 hours of prime hunting time EVERY DAY!!! The hunt was over booked with the majority of the hunters killing cows or nothing. I personally did not pay over $4000 to kill a cow. Serge is a strict business man with the almighty American Dollar speaking louder than any demand the hunters may ask of him. I overheard him say to one of the disgruntled members of our group that we were only 25 american hunters, and that there were plenty more where we came from. He was not afraid of what 25 little U.S. hunters would do to hurt his business. I advise you DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS OUTFITTER!!!!! Very few things were as it was advertised or explained to me before our arrival.

Animals Hunted: Caribou

Hunt occured in September 2001. It was an unseasonably warm hunting season and the caribou had not started their migration. Only the outfitters with the northern most camps were seeing caribou. The only caribou around our camp were cows and calfs. There was a slight chance of having a lone bull looking for romance stumble accros our stands. Our guides were just as bored as we were. If you want to call what they did guiding. Flying into camp told us everything we needed to know about where to hunt. You could see the trails, for the annual migration, from the air. You land on a lake and hunt both sides. The guides just take you out to the same stands they use every week and let you sit all day. There was no scouting, spotting or stalking attempted. However, if the caribou had been migrating, it appears this would have been a good strategy. It's hard to say what the guides would have done (or not done) should we have seen caribou on a distant hillside. We were promised two things that were not delivered. In all fairness, one was delivered late. The first promise was that each camp could hold 12 hunters. This was in case one camp was dry, they could put 2 groups in one good camp. Only 2 camps had caribou around the week of our hunt and neither camp had more than 6 hunters. The late delivered promise was to move us to a hot camp, for 1 day of hunting, if we did not see any bull caribou during the first 4 days. Needless to say, we did not see any bull caribou the first 4 days. Day 5 and we were informed we were not going to be moved until day 6, and if we did not go out and sit in the rain we would not be moved. Day 6 and the plane did not show up until noon. We got to the hot camp around 2pm and were informed we had 2 hours to hunt. Lucky for me, I shot the only caribou I saw, a small bull (equivalent to a whitetail spike), and one other hunter saw a heard about a mile away and successfully stalked and shot on a nice caribou. The guides weren't happy about the extra walk and carry distance.Don't waste your money on the bear tag, because they are few and far between.Based on my experience, I can not determine if they are a reputable outfitter. However, as we were waiting for the long distance hunter and his caribou, the next group arrived. This was going to be their 4th hunt with CanadAdventure's and they compared CanadAdventure as an excellent choice to other caribou outfitters they had used.

The outfitter advertises that he has sixty milesof road to hunt from, and that his success rate on 2 bull caribou is 92-96%. He actually uses about 10 miles of road and hunts within 1 mile of the road. He overbooks (25 guys when I was there)and after the first 2 weeks, the caribou have figured out to stay across the river in Inuit land. Out of 25 hunters, we had 3 mature bulls and about 10-12 immature bulls and cows. The group of 19 before us had about 5 mature bulls and lots of cows/immature bulls. The first 1-2 weeks would probably be OK, but the last 2-3 weeks would be a mistake.

I will preface these comments by telling you that I have been to Quebec several times and have hunted and fished with other outfitters. It is not that we did not see caribou that we are disappointed, it is because we did not get the services we paid for. I have left Quebec “empty handed” before but never displeased like I did with this company. In order to keep these comments brief, I will limit the topic to the hunting services that were not provided and not the “so called guides”.We were at “MARS” camp on September 3 – September 8, 2000. My group consisted of two hunters, my father and me. The other four hunters at MARS came from the Lebanon, Pennsylvania area. We purchased the American Plan for, $3,050.00 US EACH PERSON. Which states repeatedly in his literature “If there are no caribou in your area, we will move you at no extra charge.” In fact, a group of hunters at "Ravioli" camp had filled all of their tags on Wednesday afternoon, which allowed plenty of time to move us into that area. It is our belief and other hunter’s belief that there was no intention to move us – period. The owner verbally offered us a half price hunting trips in 2001 or 2002, in Caniapiscau Airport when we returned from the MARS camp. This is not satisfactory to us. The owner did not live up to your original promise of moving us into Caribou areas.

This was my first guided hunt. I'm glad I picked High North. I did a lot of searching for outfitters and settled on High North after corresponding with Kevin Mattice. He was very honest and up front with me. He did not make any empty promises. I also liked the idea of only 8 hunters in camp per week. This definitely allows the guide time to listen to you and try to find the type of animal you are looking for. One hunter in camp has been hunting with numerous outfitters and his comment was that the guides, food, accommodations, hunting and fishing were "top of the line". I have to agree. My friend from Alabama and I hunted the first week in September. We arrived in camp on Sunday and each of us had 2 good bulls by Tuesday afternoon. That's not always a given though, as caribou are migratory. After that we spent time fishing, which was also good.If I ever go to Canada for caribou again, it will be with High North Outfitting.

Outfitter Review: ACI Expeditions - Quebec

Animals Hunted: Black Bear

This hunt was bad and kept getting worse. To begin with the stands were right on the road.Baits were not even touched in most cases.Stands were squeaking everytime the wind blowed. We had to cut shooting lanes ourselves. We were supposed to have the camp to ourselves and when we arrived there were four more guys. 2 first time bear hunters killed their first bears on nite one. The guides came in and ran to the dinner table leaving the hunters and the bears outside and never offered to take a picture. The carcasses laid outside till noon the next day. Some never got to see a bear period. 14 hunters/ 4 bears. I know hunting is hunting but the way they treated the first timers made me sick. We dragged the bears off the truck and took the pictures. The guides never took a single picture or weighed a single bear. I was lucky and killed a decent bear(pure luck). One of the first time bear hunters asked the guide to skin his bear for a three quarter mount and the guide handed him the knife and said "you do it!" This was a very poor excuse for a hunt. I don't need to waste my vacation and money being treated this way.

Outfitter Review: Safari Nordik - Quebec

Outfitter / Owner: Henri Poupart

Hunter: Gary in PA

Animals Hunted: Caribou

I hunted with Safari Nordik during the last part of August & the first part of Septmeber 2001. There were plenty of caribou and all 11 hunters in camp killed two very good bulls. Most were done by the second morning of the hunt. My partner and I held out until the fourth day to kill our 2nd bulls and ended up with 2 really good bulls each. We passed up too many bulls to count.I will say that our guide hunted with us very little. We either went out on foot or took the boat ourselves and hunted on our own. That was fine with us but some hunters may be less than satisfied with that treatment. Granted, it's not exactly what we paid for but, we got our bulls on our own and had a great time doing it.

They do what they say they will do...fly you to caribou if none around your camp...but they put us in a camp where there were none....flew us to a camp where none had been shot from camp for 5 years...they called it a babysitting camp....then flew out to the herd...rushed to fill tags...had the pilot yell at my buddy trying to be selective.."shoot..this isn't a trophy hunt!" My whole hunt lasted an hour...with no other chance to see caribou..

Gurantee on flyer was to move hunters if no game was sighted. Owner was advised by head guide that there was no caribou, and although owner flew over the camp in his own plane, refused to answer the radio, land, or move hunters.
