Overall Impression: The worst hunt ever
The outfitter did not know the area at all and sent us out with two young men that had signed up for his guide school. This should be against the law.
Outfitter Response: Client was part of another 2 on 1 hunt for $10,000 total ($5,000 for each hunter)and after one day of travel from the landing strip to a salmon stream the client wanted to get flown out. The assistant guide was a rookie (as are all assistant guides at one time) who is now an Alaskan State Trooper, and the second client took a small brown bear around the 2nd day of this hunt. The successful client wanted to come out and Mr. Perdue opted out early, after being given the option to relocate. Mr. Perdue was perhaps one of the most difficult clients ever in my 17 years as an outfitter, yet we tried to appease his irrational complaints by offering him another opportunity the following spring at the same price for a one on one hunt. Our first successful archery hunter was busy taking his brown bear within a half mile of the landing strip while Mr. Perdue was complaining and refusing to continue downriver to the salmon stream we wanted him to hunt. Our conclusion once again is, don't expect a $20,000 hunt for $5,000 and if you book a 8-10 day hunt, then be ready to hunt for the duration.
