I average around 5-7 deer hunts a year and 3 major turkey hunts a year. So I know a good outfitter when I see one. I feel Mt. Hide Outfitters is one of the best kept secrets in the U.S. They are located in the Oklahoma panhandle region, but the owner, Steve Purviance, leases ground in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska too.Steve and his brother grew up in this region and know it well. They have several friends that help scout and guide year round. Mt. Hide has a ton of leases all throughout these states and when the hunting seasons come around, they already have spent days scouting the land. They even video record everything. In most cases, only 1-2 hunters per year will hunt a parcel of land. Last year, I had two large parcels of land all to myself. And all of these leases have a ton of 140 class deer and a very real opportunity at a 160 and 170 class deer.I like this region of the country because it is far away from any international airport. The area is very remote and simply does not receive the pressure of some of your Canada or South Texas outfitters. The turkey hunting is so good is is sick. You will see more birds (very callable birds) in one day than you will all season back home. In fact, I always fill out my tags so quick, I am on my way home quicker than I want!Steve has land in Kansas for deer that is producing racks that are unrivaled. I am not quite as familiar with his Oklahoma hunt but they always do well. His Texas properties way underhunted. I saw a 180+ class buck just this last year at 300 yards. While I was there, a 214 BC buck was found that died of old age. There is no guarantee in hunting, but for turkeys, there is at Mt. Hide outfitters. The deer hunting is so good with little or no pressure on the land you will be placed that you would have to be sleeping for 5 days not to see a good shooter. And the odds are very favorable that that shooter may be 155+. In 2003 I killed 3 turkeys in Texas and 2 turkeys in Oklahoma. My friend killed 3 turkeys in Texas and my father killed 2 in Oklahoma. I am booked this fall for Texas and Kansas. My brother will be going to Texas also with me. So, yes, I do hunt there regularly and would only take my friends and family to the BEST.
