THIS IS THE FIRST BEAR HUNT WITH CHRIS AT PINE ACRES. I HAVE HUNTED WHITTAIL THERE TWICE BEFORE. CHRIS IS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND WORKS HARD TO GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY AT A TROPHY ANIMAL. CHRIS IS ABLE TO WORK PATIENTLY WITH FIRST TIME HUNTERS AS WELL AS THOSE WHO THINK THEY KNOW ALL:) I HAVE NOT HUNTED ANYWHERE THAT THE STAFF MAKES YOU FEEL MORE AT HOME ARE WORKS HARDER TO PUT YOU ON THE GAME SPECIES YOU ARE AFTER. LOTTIE IS A TERRIFIC COOK AND MAKES EXCELLENT MEALS. SHE ALSO KNOWS WHERE TO GO FISHING. THIS IS A FIRST CLASS OPERATION AND VERY AFFORDABLE.

i have been going to pine acreas for to many years to admit. as it would tell my age. and have yet to have a so called bad hunt. chris and lottie are the greatest peaple i know and as for chris's having ego as mentioned in a previously read reveiw. he does and rightfully so. this is all he has done since he was 14 and over the years you get more and more confident. because with experience comes confidence.. i find it hard to believe that a person who has not bear hunted before, would try to accuse the guide of being egotistic. when they know absolutely nothing about it. i prefer a confident guide and when i ask one of many question i expect to get a knowledgable answer. and as for chris there has never been a shortage of knowledge. he practically lives with the bears. the baits are started at least a month in advance and everything is ready for the hunters when we arrive.then its up to the hunter to perform. remember it is a hunt not a tie up a bear and let you shoot at it. as for the lodge the place is clean, there is always coffee, and the meals are next to heaven

I am a first time bear hunter. I have been fortunate to have hunted in six states, New Zeeland, and S. Africa. I've had excellant outfitters and guides and some that were not so great. Chris and his second in command, Saxton, without question fit into the excellant category. Chris has been at this for decades. He is a true professional. I took a nice bear on the second evening of my hunt. Due to my somewhat poor markmenship we did not find the bear until the next morning. Chris charged into that Ontario bush and located my bear in a matter of minutes! There were 6 other hunters in the Pine Acres Camp. One group was led by a hunter whom had previously hunted with Chris. The suggestion Chris favors prior clients over new guys such as myself is absolutely untrue. My buddy and I were treated just as though we had hunted with Pine Acres for the past ten years. Because we thought so highly of our hunt we've already booked for next year. Also, the accommadations are superior. Simple but way more than adequate. Chris' partner and spouse, Lottie, keeps the cabins spotless. Her meals, if you choose that package, are well prepared, hot and delicious. These hunt's are semi-guided so you'll have to do a little driving and work. However, the baits are properly maintained and his success rate is as advertised. My hunting companion didn't take a bear but had a fine sighting on the last evening. He was messing around whittling, the bear saw him first and you can guess the rest. Nevertheless, he is really excited about next year's hunt. If you want a quilty hunt at the direction of an evenhanded pro I, without any reservation, heartily recommend Pine Acres. Judge Tom McLaughlin, 55th Circuit Court Family Division, MI

I hunted Black Bear with Pine Acres. My first time with this outfitter. Out of the seven guys in our cabin six got bears and one had a shot but missed. Many bears were sighted. The biggest bear was around 600 Lbs. The biggest bear I had ever seen and I've been bear hunting since 1970. I would highly recommend this outfitter. He really knows his bears. I've already booked for next year.

This was a trip in which seven of us saved for two years to attend and it was supposed to be the trip of a life time. Our base camp was located where the Gieke (sp?) River feeds into Lake Wallaston, Saskatchewan. After a 36 hour drive, we arrived on a Sunday morning to find the camp empty except for a young college kid who served as the camp cook. We had expected to be the only group in camp, but were informed by the cook that there were two others who were joining our group because their tent camp did not make. Needless to say, we were not very happy about that, but later, found that the two hunters were men of high integrity and added to the overall experience. The first thing I notice was that the camp was a mess with equipment and trash strewn all over the place. The second thing I noticed was that there was an overwhelming odor of rotting flesh in the air and we learned later that it was a carcass of some kind rotting upwind from the camp. We lived with the smell the entire week.To make sense of all this, I need to state that I have never been on a guided hunt before and I did not know what to expect. Here is what I found to be difficult to accept especially after two years of saving money for this trip. The camp cook was the kind of kid that I would welcome in my home. Polite, and sincere in everything that he attempted. However, he was not prepared for cooking for a group of men and had never done so before. There was no water, ran out of food, never enough coffee, or drinks, nothing to snack on when some of the hunters came in around midnight. We provided fish for three meals and ended up helping to cook four. I felt sorry for the young man. It was not his fault; he was put in a ‘no-win’ situation. We were told that we would have the opportunity to fish, and fish we did. Mostly from the bank; there were four boats and only one working motor and we cleaned our own fish. No big deal on cleaning fish, but not having access to all the beautiful water was a crime. Our individual guides were great but they were over worked and not happy. We heard how they were not paid for services rendered or that they were never reimbursed for gas that they put in their private vehicles as they taxied us to the different bait spots. Never should the client hear how un-happy the employees are! One guide shot a bear and did not have a tag - the Outfitter was supposed to provide him one but did not until after he shot his bear. Troubled by that. What should have happened is that when that bear was found, the guide should have slipped out and got one of the two fellas who did not see a bear. Last but not least, our outfitter, Bjorn Weippert was always gone. Seemed that he was running off to this place and that place to do something; Wal-Mart was not around the corner. Here is the bottom line – “yes, I did get a bear as did 7 out of 9 hunters, but after some serious reflection, I could not and will not recommend Bruins Claw Outfitter to anyone. My gut feeling is that the Outfitter was juggling too many irons in the fire and never gave us 100% of what we deserved or paid for. The cook and the guides bid us a most heartfelt adios but Bjorn stayed in the cabin. When all is said and done, the best part of the trip was the fellowship shared between 9 men. After all, it is never the game we pursue, but the time we spend building relationships.

I had a very successful hunt at Pine Acres Bear Camp. I shot a huge 375 pound black bear the second day of the hunt with my bow. The bear came into the bait at 15 yards and I made a perfect heart shot and the bear was retrieved only 40 yards away. I was also able to buy a wolf tag after I shot my bear and was also able to shoot a very nice timber wolf on the fifth day of the hunt. The owner Chris was very nice and did everything he could to make sure you have a successful hunt. I can’t wait to go back.

Very little that was promised was delivered on. Talking to Chris at the All Canada show, I told him I was enterested in a spot and stock type hunt as opposed to a bait hunt, he said no problem thats his prefered method, said that we could try that a few days and if I had no luck then I could head to the trees. Was told there would be baits ready if needed, with trail cam photos of whats coming in. There was two of use hunted from the outpost cabin, which happens to be very nice. I hunt with a bow, the other uses a gun. When I arived at camp, I was told the spot and stock option would be a total waste of time due to a lack of berries and it wasn't even concidered, I feel it should have been my decision. So I guess a bait hunt it is. Chris told me, on more than one ocassion that a combound bows affective range is only 18 yards or less and I blew it off figuring he probably has had to track wounded animals which left him with a bad and inaccurate opinion of archery equipment in the right hands. It became an issue though when I saw how close the stands where to the bait. Having never bear hunted before I didn't really say much, however it was obvious the first time I climbed in the stand that there was no way with the wind and the fact I was spitting distance from the bait, that I would see anything other than inmature bears if any at all, and thats all I saw, and there was no trail cam pic's to show that there were any mature bears coming during daylight hours. I'm sure if there were any, the first time I got in the tree 15 yards from the bait, the mature guys nailed me and went nocturnal. The bait robbers that did come in acted like they could get their butts kicked at any minute which told me the big guys are around but nothing showed. Over all I didn't feel like I had much control over what was going on, and didn't have enough time to improve the set ups. Likely will never bear hunt again if thats standard procedure. The guy with me got a pretty nice bear at about 75 yards with a rifle, scent was not as big an issue at that distance. I also kind of felt that probably the more you go back the better the stand location you would be assigned, who knows?

My adventure at Pine Acres actually began at the All Canada show last winter. I had absolutely no intention of booking a hunt when I went, but stopped by the Pine Acres booth out of curiosity. It was there that I met Chris Lavoie and one of his guides. Almost immediately, it became apparent that this was a very different operation. They are first and foremost a hunting outfitter, specializing in Bear, Deer and Wolves. Most folks you talk to are really fishing outfits that try to pass themselves off as hunting outfitters - not these guys. It was obvious that they were extremely knowledgeable, experienced and provided an affordable hunt - with a unique twist. Not only do they hunt over bait like everyone else does, but they also offered the opportunity to do a spot and stalk hunt. After a quick call call home to get the boss's approval, I booked my hunt. As the time for the hunt drew near, I received an information package from Chris that contained a list of the critical items needed to ensure a safe and legal hunt. Upon arrival at Pine Acres I was pleasantly surprised to find I was in a brand new cabin with indoor plumbing, electricity and Cable TV. I even had decent cellphone service. This was much more than I have become accustomed to on my yearly fly-in fishing trips and was clean and very comfortable. The camp is centrally located in Vermilion Bay so you have quick access to fuel, groceries and restaurants. The one disappointment of the trip was that the spot and stalk I was very interested in was not available due to vegetation growth in the blueberry patches reaching a point that prevented the spotting part of the spot and stalk. As such, my hunt was over bait. This is a semi-guided hunt and being a relative newbie to bear hunting I had a number of questions. Chris handled each and every one in a very thorough and satisfactory manner. Obviously he cannot predict and prepare a hunter for every situation he may encounter so for those with questions do not be afraid to ask. I found him to be very approachable and personable, and to have very sound advice. Just hit him up first thing in the morning as he works his way through multiple pots of coffee or at night after the evening meal. You generally will not find him during the day as he is out in the bush baiting or scouting. Either Chris or one of his guides will personally take you to your stand on the first evening of the hunt and make sure that your bait is ready to go. Hint: If you are into extreme adrenalin rushes make sure your guide leaves you an extra bag of bait at the bottom of your tree stand - it will lead to a very exciting up and close and personal encounter with your quarry! The first two nights of my hunt each resulted in VERY close encounters with a big sow and two cubs. This bear had not been seen previously on trailcam photo's at this site and was very aggressive. She had apparently chased off the nice Boars that Chris did have pictures of and claimed the site as her own. Chris offered the opportunity to move to either another bow tree stand or a rifle ground blind. I let him pick the spot that he thought would have the best chance to fill my tag. It was the first night on that new stand that I took my very first bear, which was a completely thrilling experience. I must say that Chris and his guides work exceptionally hard at making sure that each and every guy in camp is given the best opportunity to take an animal, and that animal is recovered quickly and stored in the cooler as soon as possible. I was very impressed by the fact that a hunting TV show crew was in camp, and that they were treated just like everyone else in camp - No preferential treatment whatsoever. The other thing that I would like to cover is camp life - what happens when it is not hunting time. Chris's wife Lonnie prepares excellent nightly meals which are served in the main lodge. That lodge becomes the social heart of camp where friends are made, stories are swapped and the next day's activities are planned. If you like, fishing is available and Lonnie can help you get started with great information on shore fishing sites as well as providing access to boats, motors etc for fishing the nearby Eagle or Wabigoon rivers. There is also an area in camp that can be used to warm up with your bow, but you will probably need to bring your own target. All things considered Pine Acres provided an outstanding experience at an affordable price; one that I am certain to do again.

I recently completed a bear hunt with Chris Lavoie of Pine Acres Bear Camp that was a wonderful experience. I have to digress for a moment and tell you that I hunted at Pine Acres Bear Camp last year and it wasn't exactly a wonderful experience. The hunt was successful in that 3 of the 4 hunters in my party took bears but, I was injured by a negligent guide operating an ATV unsafely. I knew this injury would leave me unable to walk for the rest of the week so on that day I took a smaller bear than I would have liked. Because Chris Lavoie runs a top-notch operation with a lot of integrity, he re-imbursed the money I paid for last years trip and invited me and a friend to come up and hunt this year at his expense...with a better package deal than I paid for last year. There were 10 hunters in camp this year and at the time I left, which was a day early, 7 of 10 hunters had taken bears. Those of us who hunted last year agreed the bears were on average, bigger this year than last. The facilities at the camp are excellent and the chow provided by Lottie Lavoie and her help is some of the best I have had in any camp. It's tough these days to find an outfitter or any business who will consistently go the extra mile for their customers. We've all seen plenty of horror stories where hunters have had a miserable experience with their outfitter and the outfitter could care less. Despite the injury the year before I would recommend Chris Lavoie's Pine Acres Bear Camp operation to anyone because he's customer oriented, cares about what people think of his operation, will do the right thing, and has great hunter success.

Just returned from my 4th hunt with Pine Acres Camp, Vermillion Bay, Ontario. Bagged a very nice bear my first evening in the stand. Chris is a superb bear man and makes sure there are numerious baits that are active. The evening meals were great and plentiful, Lottie does a top notch job. Nothing is ever guranteed but Chris puts the time and hard work into ensuring the opportunity is there. I actually had a bear put his head into the window of our truck while waiting for my partner in a stand nearby. Needless to say the bear continued on to my partners stand and will now become a rug. Excellent value, fishing is great, took a nice 24 inch Walleye.

The remote location was beautiful. The only human sounds were 5 or 6 trains a day and an occasional airplane. We had 2 hunters that wanted to try the spot and stalk hunt and 2 bow hunters that wanted a guided bait hunt. The website advertises 2 prebaited sites per hunter. After taking our money the guide told us he had only 1 bait site. One of the bow hunters brought a muzzleloader and was forced into the spot and stalk hunt. The “bait” was a mix of sunflower seed, corn and oats. We saw no sign of bears eating this “bait”. We were told that the guide would be with the spot and stalk hunters from 8 to 2 and take the bait hunters out until dark. Our bait hunter was shown his site and did not see the guide again until we left. He did not see a bear and there was no sign of the “bait” being hit. The spot and stalk hunters had to carry gear over a rugged trail to the next lake. A boat was provided for a hour ride. The guide met us most of the way up. We carried gear over a shot trail to another boat for a short ride to a road. 45 minute walk up the road to a stand. It had a good view of an area with blueberries and the guide put out some “bait”. 2 of us did not see any bears. The other hunter had a glimpse of a bear spotting him on the first day. He saw a big bear on the last day when he was riding with the guide in his van. The guide wouldn’t let him try to get a shot because he said the muzzle loader wouldn’t kill it. He drove on and chased the bear off the road then stopped upwind to wait for the bear with the same muzzle loader. Most of our days were from 9 am to 9 pm.

well we just returned from our hunt at pine acres camp! and man did we have a great time! when i booked this hunt with chris i told him i wanted a color phase or a P&Y class black bear. or i would probably go home without one. because after all the main goal was for my wife to get her first bear. so with that said now i can tell you chris gave me all of the above and more! my wife got her bear on the same night i shot mine. hers was a black bear that she could not have been more happy with! and mine was a huge choclate that weighed well over 300lbs and should go P&Y! not to mention the huge black bear that i blew my shot at two nights befor all of this. he was b&c forsure! and that was just the hunting! i left pine acres feeling like i had made some new friends and had a wonderful time! 13 in camp and everyone had fun and seen bears! i seen 7 different bears in my 4 nights on stand! what more could you ask for?

This is the third year in a row coming up to Chris and Lottie's wonderful hunting camp in Vermilion Bay. And like fine wine "Pine Acres" just keeps getting better w/ age. I saw eight bears the 1st day on stand four of them being shooters. The bear I took was a really nice bruin w/ a big white chevron on its chest. Chris Lavoie is the "real deal" he has over 30 years of experience in the north bush. He has forgotten more about black bears than most guides will ever know. If you do your part and just listen to what he says he will put you on bears. I would highly recommend the American Plan when you come up. The cabins are clean & comfortable and Lottie makes some of the best dinners I have ever had in any hunting camp all @ a very resonable price. I look forward to heading back up next year

I have hunted bear in Wisconsin, New Brunswick and now Ontario with success at each location. Pine Acres runs a great semi guided operation. What I really like about this camp is that they specialize in hunting. This is not a fishing operation that runs hunts to augment their income. Chris has been in the business for years and it shows. He knows bears and their habits as well as anyone I know. He is in the bush daily so he knows what the bears are doing and when. During my hunt this year everyone in camp saw bears and either shot a bear or had opportunities to do so and chose not to. Plus his area is so unpressured we were seeing shooter bears by mid day. One of the hunters in our group saw 15 bears on his stand in 4 days. I shot a real nice bear with a great coat at 3:40 in the afternoon on the first day. Pine Acres is the best bargain for the dollar on the bear hunts I have been on. I can strongly recommend the American Plan as Chris's wife Lottie is a wonderful cook. You can pay more for a hunt and you can buy a cut rate hunt...however you will not find a better buy for the dollar. You will see bears!

Had a great hunt at Pine Acres Camps Ontario in November 2010. Chris Lavoie does an excellent job prescouting and is in the bush constantly scouting the animals in the area and ensuring his clients are in the best stands. When you get out of the woods, Lottie Lavoie always has an excellent hot dinner ready to eat. The food was awesome and I guarantee you will not go hungry. In addition to the excellent hunting and food. The cabins are very nice. They have nice bathrooms with a shower, a kitchen with a stove & refridgerator, and a couch with a tv to check the news and weather. The hunting was excellent. I saw numerous buck that were bigger than any deer I have ever shot, but I had seen some of the deer that were killed here and I was waiting for one of those monsters. There are alot of big deer in this area. during the hunt I saw over 11 different bucks!Another person who made the hunt great was one of Chris' guides named Saxon. Saxon was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and always on the go ensuring that you were ready for your hunt. If you need something, Saxon will do his best to make sure you get it. He assisted us on our hunt several times. I look forward to working and hunting with Saxon in 2011. I booked a hunt for 2011 before leaving camp last year. I will be returning to Pine Acres Camp for many years to come.

This was a new camp in 2009. I hope they fix some of the problems. I killed a 250lb bear, others killed were 490, 225, and a smaller bear, another was hit but not recovered. We were promised fishing was available - it wasn't. The main guide was a college student that got out of bed usually by 9am. We were told we could hunt in the morning but there was always a reason why we couldn't go (too foggy, had to skin bears, etc.). The camp manager, Steve, the owners son, took 3 hours to skin the small bear. They had no place to cool the skin or meat. He finally went into town and found out that the local meat shop would skin the bears for $20. My bear waited (in the sun at camp) for the butcher to cut up a few bison. I lost my temper and Steve threatened to hit me and kick me out of camp. The commotion woke the guide up from his nap and he finally iced my bear until the butcher could take care of it. Of the 11 hunters in camp, 4 bears were killed and one hit, no others were seen. Getting to and from stand was an ordeal. We would leave camp, wait at a local bridge until our turn to be put on stand. It took 2 hours from the time I left camp until I got into my stand. There were only 14 stands. Most of them close to roads, so that you would have cars and 4-wheelers drive by often. The same stands were used during the first weeks hunt and again during the second weeks hunt. The camp was on the second floor of an old barn, fixed up very nice, but using pine boards. There were no fire extinguishers, and only one door in and out. This was a fire disaster waiting to happen. Steve uses the "F" word a lot. Hope you don't mind foul language.

Was impressed with the cabins as they were very clean and modern. Cris does a very good job in setting up the bait sites, as everyone in camp got a bear. Cris does a good job of tracking the downed bears. Overall it was a good experience and I would do it again.

Outfitter Review: Flemming's Black Bear camp - Ontario

Outfitter / Owner: Terry Huber

Hunter: Steve

Animals Hunted: black bear

Walter is gone-the bears are NOT! I have been going to Canada for 40 years(mostly fishing), so I have experience with many outfitters. I have been to Flemming's annually for the past 4 years. Someone told me to "read the reviews on Flemming's" on this website. I was shocked. I know how a bad outfitter and/or operation can ruin a trip. The new (2006) owner/operator, Terry Huber, is friendly and runs the camp well. Terry has 10 years experience guiding. The staff sets out the baits weeks in advance and checks them frequently to see which baits are being hit on. They show you the stands and get your bear out and bring it back to camp in their vehicle. Every year I come back with new people and always have a fun and successful trip. I look forward to seeing some of the same hunters from past years. Especially the group (6-8) that comes from Finland!p.s. The fishing is excellent!!p.s.s. Thanks Chris

Hunter: Danny Bequette

Animals Hunted: Black Bear

I hunted with Chris in 2008. I harvested a black bear on the third day of my hunt. I will return to this same camp in 2010 and this time my brother in law will hunt with me. I learned a tremendous amount of black bear knowledge and I am looking forward to learning more in my next trip. Chris has a volume of information in his brain about bears and bear hunting. Chris has 67 active bait sites and will place you on the one that he thinks you have the best shot of getting a black bear. He checks bait sites on a daily basis. He has a vast area under lease and also owned by him and his wife so there is no shortage of land to hunt on. I have heard that the camp has been remodeled so the cabins will be better than they were before. I know the food will be wonderful. Not often one gains weight on a hunting trip. I hope to use all that I learned on my first trip to harvest a bigger bear on my second trip. It is only January, but I am already getting excited about my September trip to Pine Acres. It is a great bear hunt for the price. He does everything he can to keep the price affordable for the average working man to enjoy bear hunting.

Animals Hunted: Moose

I have been to Lecuyer's Lodge 10 times; this being my 10th year. Fishing was always good,Duck goose and grouse hunting was good; I even killed a Bear with them. Last December I booked a Moose hunt. With my non-hunting guest, the trip cost $5700.00 US. This price did not include Tips, caping and butchering. The days were up at 4am with a 35-50km drive to hunting locations, 4-5 radio calls from your guide and hunt your way out at dark. During the 6 day hunt I saw 1 Moose; a COW WE THINK, yes I said Think: my guide could not tell if it was a Calf or Cow HumMMMMMMM ?????? mind you this was an experenced guide (JAMES FROM FT FRANCES) and it was my last day, and I had a calf tag. The moose stood there for 3 to 4 min. and I was not allowed to shoot it. That evening at the lodge a local contractor (LOGGER) asked me to discribe what stood in front of me and he said 350-400lbs no question CALF, my guide said 300-400lbs as we looked at it NEVER AGAIN !!! I would not recommend this hunt. I was not treated as well as the Canadian guests. Me and my frends have spent alot of money($45,000.oo US) over the years at this camp and I'm sorry to say Myself and my frends will never return to his camp.

I have just returned from hunting on 08/30/2009. I saw a tremendous amount of Bear sign as well as live bears. Chris and T&T made the experience incredible. I harvested a Beautiful 400lb Bear that looked like it just stepped out of the shower. The fishing was slow because of the high water, but still good. The hunting was exceptional! I traveled with a first time hunter who also harvested a nice bear. I strongly recommend this camp to anyone. Feel free to contact me, I have lots of pictures! 3 of 4 took bears. One bear 200# plus, another 300# plus and a small bear. I went without. It was fun, we were provided with plenty of bait, shown good metal stands that were being hit daily, we rebaited ourselves, gas was brought out for the generator(and we provided our some of our own). The outpost needs a kitchen sink and a gray water disposal system. It could use a few more wall hooks and a clothesline system too.

Animals Hunted: Black Bear

I hunted the fall of 2007 & 2008 at Auld Reekie. My group picked Auld Reekie in 2007 after a pretty extensive search, which required meeting several criteria. Urs and Diane run a nice lodge and make you feel at home. These were my only two big game hunts, so I don’t have anything else to compare, but overall I was very happy. I made a poor shot on a bear in 2007 that wasn’t recovered, however, I was successful in 2008. In talking with Urs, he limits the number of hunters every season. He tries to take around twenty total and no more than eight any given week. All the stands I hunted out of were well constructed and positioned. I’ve talked with Urs at length about his operation, if you have any questions feel free to contact me.

I saw three bears and took the last of the three by the third day. I hunted different bait sites and all were very good. The ground blinds were well placed and the tree stands were well constructed and safe. I hunted in September 2008 and have already booked another hunt for September 2010. The only reason that I did not book for 2009 was that I had already booked a safari in Africa this this season. I can't hardly wait till I go back to Pine Acres for another fun and exciting hunt.

Every year there are bucks of a lifetime shot by a client. Weather determines alot toward the outcome up here as teritory is large and deer take a while to move through it. There were many, many bait sites available. You did have to drive 40 - 60 min, but look where you are! Good hunting sites. 3 out of 4 got bears in our party, all saw them. Would recommend this resort to anyone. ALSO, the walleye(Pickerel) fishing is awesome.

From the time we got into camp, there was no direction or anything. Chris and Lottie were both very impersonal, and were hardly around. Once they got their money it was like pulling teeth to get any help. The stands were just stands nailed to trees sitting on buckets at least mine was. The baits did not seem to be baited before arrival either. In all fairness with the hunt the blue berries were very thick, and the bears weren't as interested. The outfitter, however wouldn't change my position or offer a spot and stalk in the berry batchs. There was 27 people in camp he was trying to entertain and there was around 6 bears killed out of these hunters. This hunt was different then what he made it seem at the all canada show. Many in camp got the same sales line as I did at the show so watch out for that. I would not recommend this hunt to anyone and will never go back myself. Feel free to e-mail with any questions.

This hunt was not what it was advertised to be. I was misled in the number of bears we would see and the size/color. I was told there would be no more than 8 in camp at one time. There were 32 total from various states. I was told there would be a 100% see rate, 98% success rate. Others in camp were told the same story. In my group of 3 hunters - we shot one bear and saw another - in 7 days. Distance to bait sites was 40 miles one way. In talking with guide, my group told him we were disappointed and he told us he didn't care. After my experience, I can not recommend this camp to anyone for bear hunting.

First we were lied to by the guide. They told us we would be the first hunters of the season (second week of season) which was important to us. They stated that they didn't hunt the first week of the season. When we arrived we saw 5 hunters all leaving with bears. The guide stated they were just friends. We were actually hunting the second week of the season on non-active baits. 4 of us never seen anything. The guide baited with dog food which was eaten by birds and squirrels in the first hour on stand. What a shame.. Fishing was terrible also.

Bow hunted three of seven day planned hunt and did not see a deer. Grant said he had been baiting for deer but Bears were hitting bait so he quit until I arrived. No evidence that any baiting was done at all. I was scheduled to return later in the season, however decided against it because of the first exeperience. I did not request any refund on $2,800 hunt, however did ask that he return a Hunting Pack and knife I left at camp. Grant said he would mail back to me right away. Six weeks later still have not received anything and have left follow messages with no response. In fairness to Grant I believe he has shot some nice Bucks himself, but my experience by far was the worst I have had of 6 different guided hunts!

Ron runs a camp for hunters! Best for groups because of the cooking arrangements. First week of 2007, 20 hunters in camp and we saw over 90 bears. Stands are baited weeks in advance and are only used for one hunter. Back-up baited stands available for use if needed. Once a stand is used it is not used again that season. Most shot opportunities are at 15-20 yards. He rotates areas to keep them fresh. I hunted an area that had not been hunted in 3 years.

Very organized camp and they delivered. Our group went 5 for 6 on bucks, 3 of them were wallhangers. Mine dressed at 244lbs and that was on the average side. Their bigger deer dress nearly 300lbs or more! I saw deer all day long when the weather cooperated. When it warmed up, activity slowed as it normally does anywere. Country singer Blake Sheldon had just left before we got there and he shot a dandy also, yet he was treated like everyone else who paid to be there. Many stands to choose from, hunters are spread out over many miles and are not crowded together. Id go back in heartbeat. Ontario is a sleeper.

I hunted with Dennis back in 2005 and you really could not ask for a better outfitter! Dennis was constantly making sure that the hunt was definately on top of things as far as trying to get you on a bear!! Everyone in camp had the opportunity to shoot bears and although there were three of us in camp 2 bear were taken the third person had a beautiful 225lb - 250lb bear at 15 yards and she froze... On the 5th day of my hunt i took a 250-260lb Boar that squared 6'2" and caught it all on film!! HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Wabos Trails End... If nothing else you wil eat 5 star meals prepared by his wife Dee and once dinner is over you can spend the evening sharing stories and good times with Dee & Dennis and everyone in camp!! I hunted in 2001 and seen the same Sow & cubs every day. He said you are not allowed to shoot a sow with cubs. After three days he told me to shoot the sow. While i was getting my stuff out of the truck i asked Al to hold my bow. He pulled my bow back and dry fired it. The string jumped off the cam. I had no way to put the string back on. That ruined my hunt. (Never gave any money back) He said they are catching 10-20 walleyes and 10-20 smallmouths a day in the lake by the lodge. We fished with two guys from Wisconsin (They brought there bass boat & lures) and never caught a fish for four days. After four days Al then told us it was a different lake. Outfitter Review: Horseshoe Island Camp - Ontario

Outfitter / Owner: dan

Hunter: jimmy

Animals Hunted: Black Bear

Well my computers been down for a couple of weeks so i'm late posting my trip report. I did a ton of research for my first ontario bear hunt. DVD's,Blogs, search engines, you name it, i did it. This was my 4th bear hunt but it seems like the bear fever gets a bit worse every year. So the week before the hunt i was a wreck. I chose Horshoe Island Camp in matachewan, ontario for 2 reasons. One, it was geographically isolated, and Two, I wanted to try my hand at the super walleye fishing in the area. I left south jersey roughly 2 pm and started my 17 hour trip. 2pm you say? what fool starts a 17 hour trip at 2 pm? Well i didn't want to get to the border in the middle of the night alone and be subject to a full teardown of my truck just because a border guard was bored. So i get to the border around 9pm, short line, and thought i was gonna get right on through with no problems. Wrong. The guard opens up one of my coolers and sees my 2 baskets of peaches,2 watermelons, peppers, and one buschel of cleaned, cooked blue claw crabs. I had to leave the peaches, watermelons. and veggies because i couldn't identify what kind of pesticide farmer brown used on his crops. I also had to lie to keep my crabs. He wanted to know if they were commercially caught. After i told him i caught them myself i was allowed to put them back in the cooler.Getting the muzzleloader and bow through was alot easier though. $25 bucks to get them declared and i was on my way, roughly 25-30 minutes delay. I'll explaine the muzzloader in a bit :) For those of you who have never been to canada yet i'll tell you a flaw in travel plans. Never plan on driving through the night in northern canada and expect to find a gas station open when you need one.Ohh, and by the way, when you see a speed limit sign that says 100, that means KM not MPH (damn metric system). Thought i was on the autobaun for a bit. Well about dark thirty in the morning i'm on half a tank, every town i went through the gas station was closed or the town did not have one. By the time i hit an eighth of a tank i was getting pretty darn nervous as the last town i saw was about a half hour back and i wasn't sure what was ahead.I hit the next town about 5 minutes after my gas light came on. The station was closed so i stayed the night in thier parking lot.I got about 2 hours sleep and was back on my way.I finally hit mattachewan about 10 am.Called the camp from the only store in town and got the final directions to camp.Took a mountain dirt road for a few miles and came to the lake. FINALLY, THERE! Months of day dreaming and anticipation finally came to an end and i was there. Saw two boats pulling out of the water and as luck would have it it turned out to be the first weeks hunters. 2 guys and 2 kids. The report was bad, 0 for 4. I was a bit dissapointed but after watching the 2 bored kids break some saplings and wack on a couple of trees with sticks i summed it up as hunter error. About 5 minutes later a pontoon boat came to pick me up. I loaded up my gear and enjoyed the 15 minute boat ride to my cabin on the island. My guide asked me if i wanted to hunt that night and i declined due to lack of sleep. Last thing i wanted to do was to screw up a bait due to being tired. So i unpacked, got some coffee going and took a walk over to see the owners and get stuff sqaured away. Do to alot of cancelations(2 in my party alone) there was only 1 other hunter in camp and about 8 fishermen. So after getting my tags and fishing license i headed back to my cabin.I stopped at the screen door and looked at the boat for a moment and decided that the fish could wait while i got some sleep. I woke a few hours later and just milled around the cabin for a bit, then headed back to see the owners.I handed them a few dozen crabs and got the wierdest look. You know the look...like the first time you saw the roswell alien autopsy?? yeah, that look! The other hunter was out and i decided to wait there to see how he did and kill a few beers with the owners. About 9:30 and the other hunter was returning in his boat with a big smile on his face,He shot a monster! A 50 yard shot with a rifle and scope,BUT the part of his story i didn't like was that the bear was quartering towards him. And he said that he aimed at the shoulder.I had my doubts the next morning when we went looking for this critter. It rained about 3 inches overnight and any blood would be long gone. After a couple of hours looking around we found nothing. We got seperated from the guide but managed to find our way back to the lake and eventually to the boat with the guide allready in it. I did a bit of fishing, then my guide came to show me my stands. Due to only 2 hunters they kept us on the lake with about 40 baits to choose from. They were not setup for a bowhunter at all. We moved a couple of rifle stands and cut a few shooting lanes and rebaited our sites. The bait sites consisted of plasic grocery bags hung about 5 foot on a tree with about 2-3 pounds of meat in each bag. Then 2 coffee cans nailed to a tree held the sweets. Mostly it was popcorn with maple syrup, but some had donuts in them. I've never hunted like this before, but then again i've never been to ontario before and just figured that this is how they did things up here. So as evening came i took the 25 minute boat ride to my first stand. I was told to park the boat a couple of hundred yards away from the bait and sneak in. Well i can tell you this much, NO ONE can SNEAK 2 hundred yards through bear country bush. By the time i got there every animal in a hundred miles must have known i was there. The evening came and went pretty fast and i was dissapointed at how dead my bait was. No red squirrels, birds, martins, etc that i was use to seeing in maine. I did see a cow moose off in the distance that night. I also didn't like the boat traffic on the lake that i could see from my stand. Add this part to a list of questions you should ask and outfitter before you decide."How many other lodges are on the lake?" turns out there was 4 on my lake. So night 1 went to the bears. The second night the wind was blowing about 15-20 mph and my hopes were low on seeing a bear this day. My guide wanted me to go back to the same stand so i did. When i got there the wind was blowing my scent straight up the mountain and bear trail. I stayed about an hour and hoped that the wind would change direction, but it never did.Even with the wind the boats were out fishing and i decided not to screw this bait up anymore with this wind. Day 2 goes to the bears as well. Day 3 looked hopeful. The guide came to get me and said he had a hot stand that was getting the sweets hammered every night.BUT i had to use the muzzloader for this stand. No problem i thought as this is the reason i dragged it 950 miles. I sighted it in real quick and was on my way. Same thing, park the boat a couple hundred yards away and "sneak" to the spot through bear brush. I was set up about 70 yards away on a little peninsula and had to shoot across this little bay to the bait. Again the boats were up and down the lake but only a few hundred yards from me this time.At times i could make out what they were saying. About 7 pm i saw this little fuzzy shape at the bait a thought i had a couple of cubs at the bait. i raised my scope up and saw 4 racoons at my bait tree. I watched them flip the covers off the coffee cans, then flip the cans upside down and eat every bit of sweets in them before leaving. No bear. I got back to camp dissapointed, a bit mad, and told my story to the guide and finally had to say something about the boat traffic while i was hunting. He told me that the bears were use to the boats in the area and it didn't bother them. I said that may be, but the boats are sure bothering me. I just drove 17 hours to find more human taffic in the middle of canada than in my deer hunting grounds in new jersey. But it looked like my words fell on deaf ears. Day 3.....Bears 3 hunters 0 Next day the guide wanted me to hunt a bait from a little island. Again shooting across a channel about 70 yards wide. yeah you guessed it....muzzleloader again.I found a nice comfortable spot on the ground using a deadfall for cover. About 5 pm a boat stopped about a hundred yards away and drifted through the channel i was to shoot across! He stayed about 45 minutes and left. After things quieted back down i heard 3 wolves talk back and forth for about an hour. Never saw them but i considered it a sign that the woods were quite enough for a bear.Well here it is....magic hour the sun is down and there's about 45 minutes of light left. Off to my right i start hearing kids yelling and screaming and just having a good time what ever they were doing. About 5 minutes after that a boat starts heading my way and he's lost. he stops, figures out he's in the wrong place and turns around and leaves. 15 minutes later a logging truck heads down the road behing me somewheres and a 4 wheeler follows him shortly after. One hell of a way to spend happy hour. I get back to camp and the guide asks me what i saw? My reply? Half the population of canada. They keep trying to assure me that the bears are use to it with little luck. Day 4 goess to the bears. Day 5 i'm really in a foul mood with all the human interference i'm dealing with while trying to bear hunt. I choose a stand thats off the lake a bit down this dead end ditch. Not long but further than the other stands. Back to bowhunting.I'm only in this stand for about 30 minutes when a fisherman screams so loud that i nearly jumped out of my stand."FISH ON, FISH ON,Fu** it got off!" So i called it quits and climbed down. I get back and my guide and owners are not around so i went to the cabin and started packing my stuff. I still had a day left to hunt but i just couldn't stand it anymore. Even with just a few people in camp they had strange bussiness hours. 9-12 then 2:30 to 6, said that they needed a life too. So instead of waiting on thier bankers hours for my pontoon boat ride back to the mainland i loaded up the 14' skiff, left what was owed to them on the table and headed to thier floating ramp at 5 am. Seemed like my guide and the owners were too busy trying to stay in retirement to be bothered by a serious hunter. It's also a terrible waste of a large bear hunting area. 2 weeks hunting and the camp went 0 bears for 6 hunters. Beautiful country and i hope to go back next year but it won't be there.

Outfitter Review: The Bear Essential - Ontario

Outfitter / Owner: Ken Jones

Hunter: Joe Hitchings

Animals Hunted: Bear

I was hunting a specific bear until the last night. The bear I was hunting was pushing 700 pounds. I never saw the big guy but took a nice 200 pound boar the last night. My hunting buddy missed what he described as a large bear. The next night he took a 260 pound beauty. He told me the one he missed the previous night would go at least half again as big as the one he got. Ken will go out of his way to help you get a bear. All his baits were getting hit and the area is loaded with bear. He was just awarded this Bear Management Area by the province and it had not been hunted by an outfitter for over 9 years.

Absolutely an awesome hunt. We went 6 for 6 all bucks in the 120-160 class range. More of a do it yourself hunt, but that's what made it so cheap and fun. We were showed baited stands on private land and checked in every night. We saw 30 different buck as a group of six and some in the 170 range. I'm telling ya, contact this guy for a GREAT trip!!!! llundmark@drytel.net I could email you our group photo if you email me.

Chris Burns is a thief who has 80 acres of his own to hunt and pretends to have more. We booked an "exclusive" private land hunt, 800 acres for 7 hunters, with baited stands. After waiting all day for Chris, we were lead to a parcel of property that turned out to be 150 acres and after hunting a half day, we were kicked out because he didn't have permission to hunt there. After a wasted day, we were placed on a second parcel, 200 acres with one stand and spent 2 days setting up stands so we could salvage some kind of hunt. Hunting in Ontario is totally unrestricted and there are an unbelievable number of fly by night operations hunting crown land in competition with 10,000 unguided non-resident hunters. We were regularly offered blinds by other outfitters who we met on the road or in town for $100/day and everyone of the blinds was flanked by other hunters or totally inactive. I would avoid hunting the Dryden area until th province enacts some type of requirements for their outfitters. This hunt was booked thru McClain Outdoor Adventures under the name "Monster Bucks in Ontario", more like a monster rip off.

1. Walter Fleming is concerned with one thing - getting your money. He's rude, foul-mouthed, and was nowhere to be seen after the first day.2. My son did not see a bear all week, but Walter refused to move him to an active bait.3. Advertised fishing - but the only water was a creek too shallow to launch a boat.4. Told to bring my own boat motor, but they had a shed full of motors. Advertised that they provided live bait - nowhere to be seen - never was live bait there.5. Advertised we could pull a boat to a different lake, but Walter told us we could not do that - despite having several boats on trailers ready to go.6. If you were lucky enough to get a bear, Walter expected you to bring it back on your own/in your vehicle. Would you want to explain to your wife the bear blood in back of the Suburban?6. It is a typical, we will give you the world for this one set price. Than when you get there, they nickel and dime you to death. We were told thee would only be 12-14 hunters in camp there was 25. They said there area was private and secluded, no one else around. Well, yes they have exclusive rights for hunting, but neglected to tell us that the area was open to the public for camping and 4-wheeling. Out of the 25 only 6 got bears. I know that there are alot of factors in bear hunting, the factors were great, and only 6 bears. The other big factor is the lie about how long they have been in business. The business has been there for along time, but the people that are running it now, Ed and Kelly, have only been there for 2 years. Ed runs the hunting part, and has little to no experience as a hunter, let alone a guide. This hunt to me was not worth the money paid for a supposedly experienced guided hunt. Oh, just to add, I shot a large 375 lb bear. I have been hunting for 25 years and been going on guided hunts since 1987 for all species in the US. Was not impressed by this operation. Outfitter Review: Black Bear Outpost Camps - Ontario

Outfitter / Owner: Walter/Mary L. Fleming

Hunter: Richard Burchett

Animals Hunted: Black bear

In 1996 I decided to do a black bear hunt. I did LOTS of research, checking magazines, calling references, getting prices, talking to outfitters, etc..... I even made sure to pick an outfitter from the NAHC "approved guides and outfitters list". After doing all my research I decided to go with Walter and Mary Fleming. I got prices ranging from $650 to Walter's $1200. We decided that the more expensive hunt SHOULD be better. WRONG. We arrived in camp at about 10am on Sunday morning. Walter was already drunk or stoned. We met our "guide", a college boy from Tennessee! I had to sharpen Walter's chainsaw and go cut wood for the upcoming week ( I am a timber professional) while Walter got more intoxicated. We paid Mary after we got back from cutting wood, and got ready to attend the MANDATORY hunters meeting that night. If a refund was possible I would have got it that night! Walters' meeting consisted of over an hour of listening to him INSULT every client he had in camp. He told us he didnt care who we were, where we had been, what we had hunted, or how many we had killed, we were mere DUMBA$$E$. And that basically, he was God. He even went so far as to tell us not to turn the radio on in our trucks when going out to our baitsites because THE BEARS COULD PICK UP THE RADIO SIGNALS IN THEIR HAIR! Please keep in mind, WE HAD ALL ALREADY PAID by this time. After the meeting that night my partner and I decided to just hunt like **** and make the most of it, after all this was Canada, surely we could find a bear without Walter if neccesary. Monday morning consisted of us and our "guide" going out to set our baits! This should have been taken care of weeks or months in advance! The stations were there, they just hadnt been ran in a loonngg time. We set 10 baits over roughly a 10 mile line and upon our guides "expert advice" set our stands up over what he said was the best sites. We hunted Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday over the same INACTIVE baits, always leaving camp by 11am and never getting back before 11pm! This made Walter and Mary look very bad to the other guys in camp. The hunters KNEW we were hunting HARDER than anyone in camp and still had NOTHING to show for it, so they started asking questions. Good ole Walter and Mary used this as an opportunity to make us look bad and said that we were bait hopping, riding around, getting drunk, running all the baits etc... The other hunters told us all about this on Wed. night when we returned. Oh and by the way, WE NEVER GOT AN EVENING MEAL the whole time we were hunting. It was always so late when we returned they had cleaned up the kitchen and gone to bed! I confronted Mary about these accusations of Thursday morning, ( Walter must have already been passed out somewhere). She played it down and tried to deny most of it. Upon our "guides'" suggestion, we ran our baitline on Thursday, the first time it had been checked all week, looking for an active bait. THERE WERE NONE. We went right back to the same ones we had sat on all week and hunted them again. on Friday, the last day, Mary decided to move us to another line. it was dead too, big surprise! We packed our gear Friday morning before heading out to the stands, hunted till dark, and never looked back. I was afraid to go back to camp because one more FOUL word outta Walter and I would probably still be in a Canadian prison. If all this keeps just one person from booking with them then it will be time well spent! As far as Marys 100%active bait guarantee, sned me an email Mary and I will give you my adress to send the refund to.

9 hunters took 4 bear. Guide for this lodge had 4 or 5 really active baits. Was completely overwhelmed by 9 hunters although we were booked well in advance. The other baits we hunted were being hit occasionally and had not become really active ( multiple bears). Guide did not even have a flashlight on him when we went to recover the bears we killed. Very little personal interaction, he gave the impression that he really didn't care if we killed a bear or not. Was not really prepared to move hunters to active baits. This guy was a retired game management officer who I feel was still more into his old job rather than taking care of his hunters. I will say that the Lodge itself was nice and the service was superb. We caught some really nice fish. That salvaged the trip overall. The bears that we did take were nice. 550lbs,350lbs(bow),250lbs,200lbs, really good for Ontario. As has been mentioned on other reviews, I've learned my lesson. Spend a little extra and go to Alberta or Manitoba. It's really worth it, you get what you pay for and it's alot less of the bullshit associated with the province of Ontario. It's like comparing Mass to Montana. This was my 3rd trip to Ontario and it has always been fun, like most hunts are, but I'll NEVER go back.

I hunted with Walter in about 1995. His outfit was called the "Black Bear Outpost Camps" back then. I have noticed that he has changed the name of his operation several times since then, probably to avoid negative feedback from unsatisfied customers. I posted on several threads on the "Bowsite" over the past few years,,,, warning people about Walter and his operation. Countless others also posted on threads there, the vast majority all expressing negative experiences with Walter. Walter was extremely rude and blamed everything negative on the hunters. He had 20-25 hunters in camp;;; And I think 3 bears were seen and taken. Those poor guys had to tend to their own bears in the heat of mid-day surrounded by bees,,,,, After Walter decided not to skin and butcher them for the guys. Walter fired the camp cook half way through the week,,,, Blamed that one on the cook. Walter had a young college kid from Canada running baits for him. The kid told me that he had never even seen a bear !!! Walter is a miserable person;;; And I would never recommend him to anyone...... His wife Mary Lou was more pleasant than him and helped with running baits too......... Spend your hard earned money elsewhere !!!!

I heard they secured a bear area so I booked this hunt without hesitation. For the past six years I have had seen huge bear that I couldn't harvest. Well, I arrowed a 386lb black bear in the first half hour of my hunt. The food, accommodations, guides were great as usual. The baits were all active with some big bears hitting them (as seen by the trail timers when I got in), with the tree stand locations very close for the traditional shooters in mind. We arrived into camp for the first week of Bowhunting. David and Ron greated us with a warm smile, hot cup of coffee and a firm handshake. After showing us our accommodations, helping us unpack, we headed off with our guide to see some stand locations. The guide (Serge) was very knowledgeable about deer biology and he showed us what was happening in that part of the property. After agreeing to our locations, he helped us with our tree stands. We had a great dinner that night, meeting the other hunters in camp and went to sleep at midnight. We never slept in tents before so I was a little hesitant. I slept like a rock. Same all week. The next morning we were up early to eat breakfast and out we went. Three quarters of an hour later I arrowed an eight pointer. This deer was the biggest I ever seen alive. It was following a doe into my clearing. We ended up scoring the rack at home (dry). It scored 169 1/2. The body weighed a heavy 238 lbs. My buddy missed a 12 pointer and my brother never got a shot off. He saw six deer total that week but wasn't ready or just got the fever. He got moved around after that four times to help him with easier shots. I hunted on my brothers tag all week (close by) and saw a few other nice shootable bucks. I didn't cos I wanted him too - being a nice guy.Overall the staff was great. Hunt was great. The menu was fantastic and the accommodations were outstanding. For the price you can't beat this hunt. Ontario has some huge bucks. I am going back for the late season bowhunt this year.

I have been going for the past six years. The hunt is great with lots of trophy bucks. The staff are friendly and work hard for you. Even though Ron and Daves mother passed away in the middle of our hunt last year they maintained a professional attitude for the last two days. I highly recommend this outfitter to anyone. You can't beat the service and game for the money.I talked with David after reading the negative post. Everyone got there monies back by cheque for the cancelled hunt.

From the beginning, the only thing this outfit was concerned with was getting their money. Out of six of us, only one of our baits was being hit. A nice boar was taken from this stand on the second night of the hunt. When the guides were told by the successful hunter that none of his buddies were having any activity at their baits, he stated "What do you want me to do about it?" I feel we were not treated like paying hunters should have been. This occured in the Spring of 1996.

I booked a hunt with what was presented as Robson2 Outfitters Company Limited. I paid in advance, they cashed the check. They sent me a brochure and talked highly of their outfit. They called and cancelled the hunt on my answering machine two days before the hunt. Then they dissappeared. No refund, No return call or explanation. If anyone knows who they are I would pay to get some info on who they are and where they live !!!!!!!!!

Give these guys a call. Affordable ($570.00 U.S.), confortable accommodations, great menu, and experienced guides. I harvested a buck that dressed out at 242 lbs, that was a beautiful non-typical. My two brothers took doe's that were huge also. Don't hunt deer anywhere else in Canada. These guys are the best, and the area is the best in ontario for large bucks. I told them I would be a listing for them as a reference. Contact me with any questions.

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer

I am from Ontario and tried hunting on my own. I called these guys and right away I felt welcome and secure. On this hunt, I bagged a 12 point buck that weighed in at 270 pounds dressed. It scored at 147 P&Y. The few U.S. hunters were in camp and couldn't believe the size of this buck. Ron and David (our hosts), said it was a nice deer, and a little above average. I've seen big deer but, this area takes the crown. They have modern outpost tent camps, with an excellant menu. I had deep fried turkey on my sunday arrival, peamal bacon on a bun for breakfast, chicken for lunch, and a 1.5 lb new york steak for dinner. The rest of the week is like this too. Tents are comfortable with four per tent, wood floors, and they have the woodstove right in the middle and large comfortable cots. I've never slept so good. Guides are very informative and know their stuff. The U.S. hunters that were in camp were charged $570.00 and their license and export permit was included also. They don't have any hidden costs such as trophy fees and they have been just great!I am Moose hunting this season and unable to attend. Just dropped of our 2001 deposit, stayed for coffee and showed them this site as well as a few others.they can be reached at 1 888 892 3339 or Ron Robsons (president) email rrobson@sprint.ca

Outfitter / Owner: Greg & Kim Smith

Hunter: Jim Pochas

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer/Black Bear

I have never hunted with an outfitter who works harder to put you in the right place @ the right time. Greg loves what he does and is not in it for the money. His wife Kim keeps you good and healthy and strong with delicious home cooking for the "Bush" hunting. You have to experience hunting with "Buck" his deer hound who puts deer in front of you that otherwise you wouldn't even know were there. We hunted hard and after passing on several bucks I harvested a beautiful 225 lb "chocolate" 10 pointer on the final evening. Will definitely hunt with Gregg and Kim again. Ay!!

Outfitter Review: Lark Ritchie Experience - Ontario

Outfitter / Owner: Lark Ritchie

Hunter: Edward Aldridge

Animals Hunted: Black Bear

My experience with Lark Ritchie is close to nothing I have ever experienced before. I have hunted with Lark since 1995, and have never missed a trip yet. The quantity of black bear in his management area combined with Lark's experience, and love of black bears make it the ultimate hunting experience. Lark is very thorough in preparing new and veteran hunters alike to receive the most from thier hunt.
