Review:
I've been using and testing these binoculars for almost 5 years. They've been big game hunting with me in a number of states and Canada. They've been duck hunting with me all over the place. They've been with me on spot and stalk mule deer hunts in the Rocky Mountain West. They've been with me on treestand whitetail hunts in a number of places. I've put them to the test, big time.
When I bought them I told the salesman that I wanted a "good" pair of binoculars for hunting elk, mule deer, and antelope, but couldn't afford any of the "Big 3" (Swarovski, Leica, Zeiss). He immediately said to get the Discoverer. He said it was a great quality glass for a fraction of the price of the "Big 3" (I paid $350 for mine). He was right. I got them and immediately took them on an elk hunt. I had NO IDEA what I was missing by using a sub-par quality pair of binoculars for a number of years. With these, I have no more eye strain, no more headaches, and actually enjoy looking through my binos, glassing for long periods of time.
Image clarity is great, light gathering capabilities are great. I haven't exactly treated them kindly, but I never had the first problem with these binos until this past January. I took them duck hunting with me in the Gulf of Mexico, and they accidentally got submerged in salt water several times. They fogged up on me. First time in 5 years. My pair are the older version, and are not waterproof. The newer version are all 100% waterproof, which makes them even better. One thing that I really like about them also is the hard rubber armor. You don't feel like you have to baby them.
I've compared these binos with a Swarovski pair in this class, in the field, and I would be hard pressed to say that the Swarovski glass was any clearer, brighter, or in any way better. And certainly not for more than double the price of the Discoverer's. Overall, these binos are a fantastic product and a great buy.
Pros:
Tough, good light, good image clarity, fairly compact, great price
Cons:
Slightly heavier than some other binos in this class
